Associate Mechanical Applications Support Engineer

What you'll do:

  • Support duties will include problem solving, teaching, organizing seminars and the development of applications that fill functional voids specific to the aerospace business environment.

  • Work to automate and control transition of Mechanical Design data from the originator to enterprise systems that archive and support enterprise collaboration.

  • Work with Electrical, RF, Systems, Optical Engineers and Supply Chain Management. Help ensure relevant and appropriate data is available to all team members.

  • Identify and evaluate inefficient procedures and practices and propose optimized solutions.

  • Work with and support a talented group of Mechanical Design Engineers in a fast-paced product development environment.

  • Work with a team that will evaluate and integrate Model Based Engineering technology (3D drawings) into our existing Enterprise Data Systems.

  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, Strategic Business Units, Strategic Support Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.

  • Perform other duties as necessary.

What you'll need:

  • BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required.

  • Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master's Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.

  • Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering preferred.

  • The desire to share (teach) fellow employees complex concepts in a classroom setting.

  • Must be familiar with SolidWorks or similar Multiple Original Document (MOD) 3D CAD system.

  • Must be "Mechanically Oriented" and have a strong desire to improve and create state-of-the-art products that exceed our customers' expectations.

  • Experience or course work related to structural and thermal analysis using modern 3D toolsets.

  • Strong communications skills, verbal and written, plus excellent customer-relationship skills.

  • Must be familiar with 3D solid modeling, 2D documentation and 3D annotation.

  • Familiarity with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).

  • Experience with Windows and 3D MCAD solid modeling software.

  • Familiarity with Version Management Software for 3D MCAD software (PDMWorks, AutoDesk Vault, Pro-Intralink). Experience with Product Lifecycle Management software is desirable.

  • Excellent analytical and technical troubleshooting skills.

  • Basic understanding of PLM system fundamentals.

  • Experience using interpreted programming languages (Excel VBA, MatLab) is required.

  • Candidates with experience or course work utilizing Visual Basic.Net (vb or C#) and relational databases (SQL/Oracle) will be given preference.

Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed in an office, laboratory, production floor, or clean room, outdoors or remote research environment.

  • May occasionally work in production work centers where use of protective equipment and gear is required.

  • May access other facilities in various weather conditions.

  • Travel and local commute between Ball campuses and other possible non-Ball locations may be required.

Security Clearance:

Successful applicant for this position must be eligible to obtain a DoD clearance or government customer access to classified/sensitive material. A current DoD clearance is not required to be eligible for this position, however the successful applicant will be required to obtain a DoD clearance or government customer access within a reasonable time after the offer is extended and must be able to maintain the applicable clearance. *US Citizenship is Required. Qualifications: Engineer I - Mechanical Ground Support Equipment What you'll do: * Technical responsibilities include the mechanical design and requirement allocation, interface definition, performance investigation, and risk mitigation from concept through detail design and certification of Mechanical Ground Support Equipment (MGSE) and Special Test Equipment (STE). * Responsible for supporting hardware development team to meet cost, schedule, and technical requirements. * Effort will include CAD modeling, drawing creation and design examination. * Provide inputs for detailed development schedules and support team activities to meet hardware delivery milestones. * Interact with other functional disciplines in an integrated program team (IPT) environment. * Responsibilities may also include technical management of major subcontracts. * Post design sustaining engineering may be required. * Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule. * Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Support Units and the Company.
