Job Summary:

Entry level position in materials development. This individual will apply an understanding of metals, ceramics, polymers, fibers and composite materials to develop new products and enhance existing ones. Specific areas of focus will include polymeric fiber-based nonwovens (including the evaluation of different additives) formed from the process along with multiple bonding processes to form advanced and high-performance composites for the filtration market. Different product grades will be developed starting from laboratory to commercial scale trials. Special focus will be given on innovation, with that this role will focus on establishing a strong intellectual property base. Additionally, this position will also closely work with the production team and the suppliers to evaluate different materials to reduce the overall cost without compromising on the quality.

Duties and Responsibilities:

This Associate Materials Scientist will work under the direct supervision of Development Engineer II. Completes tasks in the support of new product development projects following established processes and quality standards. Duties include material research, product/prototype development, testing, analysis and documentation.

  • Maintain a safety-first attitude in performing all the tasks

  • Responsible for the day to day development work in making samples and testing

  • Responsible for the timely completion of a project and assigned tasks

  • Analyze data and provide insights and recommendation based on that

  • Perform other duties or special projects as required or as assigned

  • Support production trials and new product scale-up runs

  • Identify opportunities and make recommendations to improve our ISO protocols

  • Demonstrate ability to communicate (verbal and written) at all levels

  • Deliver technical reports and data analysis in timely manner

  • Demonstrate basic computer skills in excel, power point and project management

  • Work closely with the purchasing, production and marketing teams to fulfill customer's new and existing product needs.


  • Must adhere to all company and location policies and safety rules

  • Must be able to work extended hours when required

  • All other duties as assigned

Education, Experience, Skills and Abilities Required for Consideration as a Candidate:

(If a degree is required it must be from an accredited institution)

  • Four years of engineering degree (BS) preferably accompanied with advanced degree (MS) in Polymer, Materials or Textile Science

  • One or two years of work experience in polymeric materials, melt-spun nonwovens or textile field is preferred

  • Experience with Lean six sigma and working knowledge of statistics is required

  • Hands-on lab laboratory experience with material characterization and testing such as DSC, TGA, FTIR, SEM etc. and/or strong knowledge and understanding of different nonwoven manufacturing technologies is a plus.

  • Ability to work in cross-functional teams within the facility as well as throughout the company

  • Ability to organize, manage, and control workflow

  • Good written and verbal communication skills

  • Good time management skills

  • Ability to learn analytical and problem-solving techniques

  • Proficiency in MS office (word, excel, power point etc.)

  • Ability to interact with technical professionals

  • Experience with lean six sigma
