Job Description

The Associate Manager of Engagement position is crucial in promoting student success by directing operations related to student leadership and engagement activities for TSTC students to empower students to become active, global citizens who lead with a lifelong commitment to service. This position provides front line services to students and assists in supervising staff. As a Residence Life and Engagement team member, this position will strive to increase the level of engagement of residential students, living on campus, by coordinating leadership opportunities and engagement activities. The effectiveness of this position will be determined through lead measures and goals focused on student retention, completion, and placement which contribute to goals for the Student Services division and College as a whole. This position reports to the Statewide Executive Director Residence Life and Engagement and is responsible for upholding the policies and practices consistent with the College mission and values of excellence, accountability, service and integrity.

Essential Functions:

Employee will demonstrate TSTC Core values of Excellence, Accountability, Service and Integrity with internal and external stakeholders, customers, students and members of the community.

  • Oversight of recognized student organizations including, but not limited to, creation of student organizations, oversight of organization activities, and oversight of organization travel.

  • Development and implementation of advisor training for faculty and staff that work with student organizations.

  • Conduct annual budget review for student organizations

  • Planning and execution of annual risk management training for student leaders and student organization advisors.

  • Planning and execution of service-learning, civic engagement, and community service opportunities for students throughout each semester.

  • Planning and promotion of leadership development and various other engagement opportunities for the Waco , East Williamson County , North Texas and New Braunfels campuses.

  • Utilize data to inform event schedules and programs. Evaluate and monitor program needs, identify unmet needs and revise services as needed.

  • Co-supervise the Watson Rec Center in on the Waco campus for all wellness and recreation programs

  • Assist the Executive Statewide Director with a comprehensive statewide Welcome Week, Techsan Days, and Student Technology appreciation days programming.

  • Develop and implement life skills programming on the Waco campus in partnership with Student Retention.

  • Responsible for the local Student Leadership & Engagement budget preparation process, implementation, monitoring, supervision of expenditures, and purchases in compliance with procurement policies.

  • Develop and maintain the statewide student engagement website

  • Supervise a limited number of professional and student staff.

  • Respond in a timely manner to all student inquiries received via email, text and phone systems.

  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to provide leadership opportunities through a variety of communication methods, including in-person inquiry, telephone, email and other communication modalities.

  • Possess a general understanding of college policies, procedures, requirements, and effectively communicate them to students.

  • Communicate with your supervisor for guidance.

  • Other duties as assigned

Education/Experience/Knowledge/Skills

  • Minimum Bachelor's degree with three years in Student Leadership, Physical Education/Health/Recreation, Humanities, Social & Behavioral Sciences, Communication, or Physical Education/Health/Recreation or applicable field

  • Three years experience in recreation, student activities, or a related field considered in lieu of degree

  • Creative and new ideas for student leadership, wellness, and retention.

  • Ability to use good judgment in all areas of the facility, events, and risk management.

  • Thorough knowledge of college policies, procedures, and requirements.

  • Skills in judgment and decision-making, problem solving.

  • Ability to multitask. Abilities in problem identification, reasoning, ability to develop original ideas to solve problems.

  • Knowledge of the applicable federal and state regulations governing areas related to the responsibilities of the position including the Federal Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and ability to maintain strict confidentiality at all times.

  • Ability to relate to individuals and groups of students using communication, counseling, and problem-solving skills. Skill in working independently and following through on assignments with minimal direction.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a service environment that is subject to frequent interruptions and skill in setting priorities that accurately reflect the relative importance of job responsibilities.
