Why is the Assistant/Associate Manager, Digital Marketing important?

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Digital Marketing, this team is charged with driving consumer revenue through subscription sales. The Assistant/Associate Manager is a critical member of the team responsible for developing and overseeing the execution of our marketing strategy across a variety of platforms and media channels. Highly engaged consumers have been and will continue to be the cornerstone of our successful media brands regardless of platform. The Assistant/Associate Manager will play a key role in growing and monetizing our owned and operated site and email audiences through an iterative, data-driven test-and-learn approach.

The Position:

Working closely with senior members of the Consumer Marketing team, the Assistant/Associate Manager is responsible for helping define programs to drive acquisition and increase first party identified audiences. The Assistant/Associate Manager will partner with the Senior Manager to develop successful marketing campaigns to grow sales through improved click-through and conversion rates on newyorker.com. A successful candidate will be an organized team player who can communicate and collaborate across departments and levels of the organization to assist with the deployment of marketing campaigns that maximize ROI.

The Assistant/Associate Manager will:

  • Assist with the development and subsequent analysis of marketing campaigns and tactics which drive customer relationships and increase subscription sales from .com & email campaigns.

  • Maintain marketing calendar, translating that calendar into actionable and detailed cross-team briefs as required

  • Work with Senior Manager to measure and report results of marketing efforts against relevant goals and KPIs

  • Help identify and leverage native and content marketing opportunities to achieve goals

  • Collaborate with Senior Manager and brand leads to maintain a consistent brand voice and messaging

  • Project manage and coordinate closely with the marketing operations team, creative department and internal teams to ensure successful campaigns end to end

Skills required:

  • One to three years of relevant digital marketing experience as an individual contributor in a publishing, advertising, ecommerce or retail organization

  • Grasp of direct response marketing tactics that drive engagement and consumer purchase

  • Analytical and data driven

  • Understanding of digital marketing best practices. Seeks to stay abreast of digital marketing activities of other organizations and develop actionable insights

  • Process focused, with demonstrated ability to assess priorities and multi-task

  • Adapt to fast-paced environment and take direction from multiple people

  • Ability to quickly learn and navigate several internal processes, procedures and content management systems

  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills

  • Effective time management skills

  • Ability to become conversant and learn to use technology and marketing platforms and tools that can measure and drive marketing programs and conversions

  • Basic HTML skills

  • Posess or can develop a strong working knowledge of analytical tools such as Google Analytics, Adobe Analytics or similar tools

  • Facility with MS Office products (MS Excel, MS Word, MS PowerPoint) and/or Google Suite

The hired applicant will manage a growing team of more than a dozen Web producers, who together are responsible for insuring pristine copy across the New Yorker Web site, newsletters, social-media posts, and the rest of the magazine's online presence. Overview/Purpose: Above all, the copy chief must be a master copy editor, with a sharp eye for detail that catches every mistake of spelling, punctuation, grammar, and syntax before publication. He or she must have a deep knowledge of New Yorker style and a passion for building on the magazine's reputation for immaculately edited articles, display copy, cartoon captions, and more. The hired applicant will oversee the team of Web producers/copy editors and, ultimately, the daily copy-editing of all Web pieces, insuring they publish without errors; will be responsible for the recruitment and training of new hires for our growing Web copy team; will evaluate and work to improve the copy-editing skills of existing staff; will manage staffing and scheduling for all digital-copy needs, including over holidays and during special news events; will work closely with the the site editor, managing editor, and others to facilitate efficiency and quality; will coördinate with the print copy chief to increase collaboration between the print and digital copy teams; and will constantly evaluate and, where necessary, adjust workflows and departmental policies to guarantee the highest possible quality of what we publish.
