Associate Major Gifts Officer

Davidson College seeks an engaging and motivated individual to join its dynamic major gifts team. The Associate Major Gifts Officer will be responsible for discovery, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of Davidson College alumni, parents, and friends in support of the college's ambitious fundraising goals.

The Associate Major Gifts Officer will collaborate regularly with colleagues in major gifts, research, principal gifts, parent giving, the Davidson Athletic Fund, gift planning, and donor relations to ensure a comprehensive approach with all prospects. The Associate Major Gifts Officer will carry a portfolio of approximately 150 to 200 households within identified geographic regions and will also qualify new major and principal gift prospects to be managed by colleagues.

A highly visible representative of Davidson College, the Associate Major Gifts Officer has a deep appreciation for the liberal arts college experience and a strong appreciation for Davidson's core values and Statement of Purpose.

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage a portfolio of 150 to 200 development prospects capable of support in the range of $2,500 to $20,000 annually through an active schedule of qualification, engagement, solicitation, and stewardship.

• Conduct a minimum of 180 one-on-one meetings with prospects to explore donor inclination, capacity, and readiness; curate next steps for follow-up.

• Work collaboratively with College Relations colleagues and cross-campus partners to maximize the potential for donor engagement and ensure clear communication in the cultivation and solicitation process.

• Develop and maintain a strong understanding of Davidson's strategic priorities and goals.

• Build and expand the engagement of the prospect pool; identify strategies and opportunities to align prospects with college priorities.

• Maintain a complete record of all prospect and donor interactions using the Blackbaud CRM system. Maintain individualized prospect engagement and solicitation plans based on individual donor interests.

• Actively engage in the life of the college through attendance at campus events.

• Staff College Relations special events on campus and in regional territories on an as needed basis.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will be highly organized, deadline driven, self-directed, able to build trust-based donor relationships, work collaboratively and strategically with colleagues, and possess a strong set of principles and ethics as related to relationships and fundraising. The successful candidate will demonstrate high standards of professionalism and performance as evidenced by collaborative teamwork, initiative, critical thinking, good judgment, consistency of output, and timeliness of follow-through.

Other qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree

• High level of comfort with financial conversations including the solicitation

• Minimum 2+ years' experience in development or closely related field (e.g., sales, marketing) preferred

• Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal skills

• Proven organizational skills

• Willingness to travel extensively and to work evenings and weekends as needed

• Comfortable working with people of diverse generations, backgrounds, and experiences

• Demonstrated ability to work with and earn the respect of colleagues, volunteers, and donors

• Demonstrated successful record of short-term goal setting, strategic planning, timeline creation and execution, and problem-solving

• Proven ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
