This position is located in the: Southwest Laboratory, Vista, California.

As a your typical work assignments may include:

  • Provides administrative and human resource management functions relative to the staff supervised.

  • Makes major operational decisions relating to all laboratory programs.

  • Provides overall supervision to laboratory personnel and support members.

  • Serves as expert consultant in planning, monitoring, and administering chemistry projects of national and international significance.

  • Provides technical insight into the development and management of policies, procedures, and operational schedules necessary for new systems and functions.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements: Applicants must meet ONE of the following qualification requirements: (A). Degree: physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics. OR (B). Combination of education and experience -- course work equivalent to a major as shown in A above, including at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

Minimum Qualifications: In addition to meeting the basic requirements above, applicants must have one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-14 Federal grade level in performing a full range of duties to include managing a laboratory system quality assurance program; developing policies, programs and objectives for forensic science services; and overseeing administrative areas, including financial/operating plan development, data system management and personnel management.

Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-14 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-13, The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade.
