About the Department

The Toxicology department consists of 4 sub departments: Toxicology, Biological Monitoring, Blood Lead and Mass Spectrometry. These have a combined volume of approximately 500,00 tests a month. Our toxicology tests are primarily focused on therapeutic drug monitoring, our biological monitoring tests focus on metal or chemical exposures and our mass spec department is our most rapidly growing area and encompasses testing from several disciplines from toxicology to endocrinology. The Toxicology department offers experience with many types of analytical instrumentation such as GC, GC/MS, HPLC, ICP/MS and LC/MS/MS as well as with automated and manual systems of sample preparation. Position is in the mass spectrometry section of Toxicology. Position will be responsible for sample preparation for analysis by LC/MS/MS utilizing both manual and automated extraction protocols. The position will also be responsible for the pre- and post-analytical specimen management of those samples, reagent preparation, and daily instrument setup.

This position is on 3rd shift and qualifies for a shift differential incentive!

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Position is in the LC/MS Data Review/Operator section of Toxicology.

  • Responsible for reviewing and certifying LC/MS data utilizing Analyst and Ascent software.

  • The position will be responsible for the verification of the calibration, quality controls, and patient data up to and including result entry.

  • Performs minor troubleshooting/repair and instrument prep of LC/MS systems as needed.

  • License/Certification/Education: BA/BS or equivalent (HEW) in Chemistry, Biology or related science.

  • Must have 4-6 years of clinical lab experience

  • Experience with Chromatographic Data Review preferred.

  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of specific laboratory and/or department functions

  • Ability to exercise judgement to determine methods and procedures on new assignments

  • Proficient with computers and familiarity with laboratory information systems

  • High level of attention detail along with strong communication and organizational skills

  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment

  • Must be able to pass a standardized color vision screen

  • Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs

This is a high volume , fast paced environment with opportunities to learn multiple benches and room to grow in a growing lab with room for advancement! The role focuses primarily on COVID-19 PCR testing in the Molecular department of our Clinical Laboratory, where you will perform both automated and manual testing with the overall goal of providing results that will be used for the diagnosis and management of COVID-19. Along with testing thousands of COVID-19 samples per day, we have developed an at-home testing kit to give the public easier access to the diagnostic test. We are also conducting antibody tests which provides information to our patients as to whether they have been exposed to the virus or not. Ultimately, these test results will be studied to better understand the virus in hopes of developing better treatments, and a future vaccine. The work schedule for this position will be Sunday - Wednesday 2PM - 12:30AM Job Duties/Responsibilities: * Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria * Perform routine and complex technical procedures and functions according to departmental Standard Operating Procedures * Monitor, operate and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionality * Demonstrate the ability to make technical decisions regarding testing and problem solving. * Prepare, test and evaluate new reagents or controls * Report accurate and timely test results in order to deliver quality patient care * Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures * Identify and replenish testing bench supplies as necessary * Assist with processing of specimens when needed * Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment * Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Medical Technology or a related science * Minimum 1 year of clinical laboratory testing experience is required for Technologist level * Previous experience is not required at the Technologist Trainee level * ASCP or AMT certification is preferred * Ability to work independently and within a team environment * Proficient with computers; Familiarity with laboratory information systems are a plus * High level of attention detail along with strong communication and organizational skills * Must be able to pass a standardized color vision screen * Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs If you're looking for a career that offers opportunities for growth, continual development, professional challenge and the chance to make a real difference, apply today!
