  • Position Summary

Under the direction of the head trainer, the Associate Head Athletic Trainer (AT) will demonstrate advanced knowledge and skill in standard prevention, emergency care, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation techniques. This position follows standard principles, uses appropriate medical terminology, participates as a team member in a collaborative environment, actively contributes to completing team goals and assigned tasks, and communicates in written and verbal form. The Associate Head AT is responsible for assisting with administrative duties under the direction of the Head AT, including but not limited to mentoring the assistant athletic trainers, data collection and reporting, medical record-keeping, and policy and procedure protocol education.

  • Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Athletic Training

Provide athletic training services for the University athletics program through scheduled training room hours, in attendance at team practices and home and away competitions, as well as in emergency and other necessary-care circumstances.

  • Conduct assessments and provide immediate care for injuries sustained by student-athletes.

  • Develop and implement rehabilitation protocols in collaboration with the sports medicine team.

  • Collaborate with coaching staff to ensure athletes' physical readiness and injury prevention.

  • Collaborate and contribute to the strength and conditioning programs as a coach and supervisor, as needed.

Clinic Management:

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the athletic training clinic.

  • Manage scheduling and coordination of medical appointments for student-athletes.

  • Ensure the clinic maintains compliance with healthcare standards and protocols.

Health Care Coordination:

  • Coordinate with team physicians and healthcare providers to ensure comprehensive care.

  • Facilitate communication between athletes, coaching staff, and medical professionals.

  • Assist in managing medical records and documentation.

Emergency Response:

  • Maintain accurate records of Coaching CPR certifications.

  • Assist Head AT in CPR training for coaching staff.

  • Conduct regular emergency response drills and training for athletic department staff.

Administrative Oversight

  • Assists the Head AT in development of programs for injury prevention, evaluation, management, treatment/rehabilitation, and education for student-athletes

  • Coordinate and schedule physical examinations and medical referrals for student-athletes

  • Oversee care and function of athletic training room facilities and equipment

  • Assists with Inventory/order all related supplies

  • Assist in managing the budget for the athletic training department, ensuring efficient allocation of resources for clinic operations

  • Assists the Head AT all sports medicine record keeping and documentation, including communication with student- athletes (and their families) for all required paperwork and clearances

  • Serve as a liaison with allied providers-physicians, physical therapists, contracted athletic trainers, and personnel from opposing teams

  • Assists with Reporting / Data sharing

  • Develops reports on injury trends to better prevent and manage athlete injuries

  • Create periodic trend reports to present to AD and athletics staff

  • Use data for program development

Education and Counseling:

  • Provide education on health and wellness topics to athletes and coaching staff.

  • Offer counseling and support to athletes dealing with injuries or health concerns

Supervision and Leadership:

  • Supervise and mentor athletic training staff and student interns, if any.

  • Collaborate with the Head Athletic Trainer in the development of training programs.

  • Foster a positive and collaborative work environment

The person must become familiar with and adhere to Chaminade University policies, NCAA institutional control and compliance rules, the Pacific West Conference, and NCAA Division II philosophies. The person must be committed to the pursuit of excellence in academics and athletics and fosters the holistic development of these student-athletes in alignment with the mission of Chaminade University and our Marianist values.

  • Education and Experience

Minimum

  • Master's degree required.

  • Three years of professional athletic training experience.

  • Certified by the NATA BOC, State Athletic Training Licensure.

  • Experience as an Athletic Trainer in any educational institution is required

Preferred

  • Experience as an Athletic Trainer at a higher education institution preferred

  • Supervisory experience is preferred

  • Strength & Conditioning Coach Certification preferred or ability to gain certification within one year of hiring

  • Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Familiarity with NCAA governing rules

  • Strong leadership and team building skills

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact and work with individuals at all levels of the university

  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, faculty, students and community members of diverse academic, socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google or related software

  • Highly organized with strong personal management skills in order to meet the needs of a dynamic environment

  • Meticulous attention to detail

  • Ability to meet deadlines

  • High integrity and ethical standards

  • Physical Requirements

Duties involve light work in an office and community setting and requires a minimum of physical effort with intermittent sitting, standing, climbing stairs, and walking inclines. Must be able to lift 50 pounds, walk the campus with ease, and have excellent motor skills. Must have finger dexterity. Must be able to communicate information and ideas so that others will understand.

  • Other Requirements:

  • Must have a valid Drivers License

  • This is a full time, exempt position. Forty hours per week (M-F) will be the general rule. However, depending on the project cycles and workflow demands of the department, additional hours or workday schedule changes may be occasionally required. Must be willing and able to work occasional nights and weekends and have a varying schedule when required

  • Performs such similar, comparable or related duties as may be assigned or required

  • Observes all safety and health regulations and works in accordance with safe work procedures and policies of the University. Reports unsafe acts/conditions and injuries in a timely and proper manner
