The Kitchn is looking for an Associate Groceries Editor to join our team. We are seeking an organized, passionate, and data-driven individual with extensive knowledge of groceries and grocery retailers. Under the guidance of the Senior Groceries Editor, this role will be an essential support for the growth of The Kitchn's groceries coverage.
The Associate Groceries Editor will pitch, write, and refresh a large volume of content, including trending stories with traffic potential and highly optimized SEO stories. This role is also responsible for producing Grocery Spotter, one of The Kitchn's franchises.
A love of food, deep curiosity and passion for grocery products, and an eye on trends are all musts for this role. The Associate Groceries Editor should have strong writing and reporting skills, with an approachable voice for the home cook, and be able to juggle priorities under tight deadlines, all with attention to detail. The ideal candidate will have a positive attitude and upbeat spirit, and be a team player.
As Associate Groceries Editor, this person will collaborate closely with The Kitchn editors, as well as the SEO and growth teams.
Responsibilities:
Pitch and produce minimum 10 pieces of new content every week
Refresh archive content related but not limited to product reviews, love letters, shopping tips, budget advice, and industry news for the home cook
Refresh archive groceries content, collaborating closely with SEO teams to develop a deep understanding of best practices for SEO optimization and editorial standards
Help review and edit archive content for accuracy and voice
Assign and edit the bimonthly Grocery Diaries stories
Contribute ideas to team brainstorms and pitch sessions
Closely monitor story performance and analytics and track traffic trends using Parse.ly, and pitch new story ideas based on these trends
Test and look for ways to expand grocery and retailer coverage to better serve home cooks and stand out from other publishers
Requirements:
3-5 years experience in food digital media and/or publishing
Strong writing skills and ability to speak to the home cook like a friend
Top-notch organizational, problem-solving, and time management skills
A team player with a desire to collaborate across teams
Ability to balance multiple priorities and to quickly shift in in the face of new information and under tight deadlines
A love of grocery stores and products
An astute awareness of internet trends and the cultural zeitgeist, especially as it relates to food and cooking
Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
Ability to work within technical systems/content management systems (CMS)
Passion for groceries, food, and cooking
Salary Range: $70,000 - 75,000 annually
The above represents the expected salary range for this role. Ultimately, compensation is determined by level of experience, location, and other job-related factors.
