Under general supervision, this position designs the Burlington Electric Department generating facilities modifications, upgrades, and improvements to ensure the reliability of the generating assets.

Union Affiliation: Non-Union

Pay Grade M20: $71,395.79 - $109,838.56 Annually

Please note: BED is looking to hire one Generational Engineer. Applications for the Associate Generation Engineer, Generation Engineer, and Senior Generation Engineer will all be considered to fill this opening.

  • Perform engineering functions for all generating facilities within Burlington Electric Department (BED) including McNeil Generating Station, Chace Mill Winooski One Hydroelectric, Burlington GT, Airport Solar, and BED Pine Street Solar facilities.

  • Design, document, and implement modifications for Generation control systems.

  • Program PLC logic related to all generating asset controls and operations.

  • Provide engineering support on any Generation system or piece of equipment.

  • Prepare specifications, evaluate proposals, and coordinate outside engineering services.

  • Provide engineering drawings with detailed work instructions for all assigned capital projects.

  • Ensure that all plant drawings are up-to-date to depict as-built conditions.

  • Maintain documentation including engineering drawings, equipment manuals, and file organization.

  • Assist with equipment inspections and preventive maintenance functions.

  • Assist with electronics troubleshooting and repair.

  • Assist with repairs and solutions after forced outages at all Generation assets as needed to get the asset operational in a safe and effective manner.

  • Become a qualified Level One Operator for BED Gas Turbine.

  • Must possess a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.

  • Professional behavior that reflects excellent customer service and encourages working partnerships with internal (e.g. employee) and external (e.g. ratepayer) customers is required.

  • Regular attendance is necessary and is essential to meeting the expectations of the job functions.

  • Ability to understand and comply with City standards, safety rules and personnel policies.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid Vermont driver's license required.

  • Ability to attend evening meetings as well as travel to conferences, workshops or other professional meetings required.

  • Ability to use special personal protective equipment such as hearing protection, rubber boots, leather gloves, safety glasses, respirator (fit test required using OSHA criteria), hard hat, etc.

  • Ability to work outside where there is exposure to heat/cold or moisture, hazardous materials, and energized wires/equipment.

  • Ability to work in and around energized, high voltage equipment, in accordance with all applicable safety requirements.

  • Ability to work long hours to accommodate workload or emergencies.

  • Answering phone calls after business hours is required.
