About the Role:

The Associate General Counsel (Associate GC) is responsible for the administrative or legal affairs of the corporation that are delegated by the overseeing Deputy General Counsel primarily in the areas of Contracting and Accountable Care Organizations.

The details:

This role is a work-from-home, virtual opportunity. The Associate GC may travel 1-4 times a year.

In this role, you will:

  • Negotiate, prepare, draft, review, and interpret a variety of contracts, including but not limited to vendor agreements, hospital agreements, corporate transaction documents, managed care, physician services, licenses and purchasing.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and organizational policies related to healthcare agreements and ACO frameworks.
  • Provide counsel on health care laws including those on privacy, government programs, fraud and abuse, physician self-referral and anti-kickback laws, and EMTALA.
  • Stay updated on changes in healthcare laws and regulations affecting ACOs to ensure .
  • Assist in representing or directing representation of the organization in all substantive areas of the law including but not limited to corporate transactions and governance, contracting, and healthcare regulatory and compliance issues.
  • Interpret and implement applicable state and federal laws, rules and policies. Prepare memoranda and correspondence responding to questions of law and policy.
  • Perform or oversee the performance of legal research necessary to draft and analyze various contracts, policies, and other documents to advise internal clients.
  • Provide counsel for legal aspects of patient care with significant medico-legal dimensions, including informed consent, medical records/privacy issues, and patients' rights issues.
  • Provide advice and counsel in conflicts of interest and other related compliance issues.
  • Maintain professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest developments in corporate and healthcare law and in other related areas.

Knowledge:

  • Juris Doctorate (JD) Degree; admitted to practice; member of the bar.
  • Exposure to and/or familiarity with the following areas of law: healthcare regulatory, accountable care organizations, contracts, M&A, state and federal securities, and corporate governance.

Experience:

  • 3+ years increasingly responsible law firm and in-house experience, preferably in a healthcare environment.
  • Significant knowledge of laws and regulations regarding health care regulatory, corporate, compliance and transactional matters (e.g., Stark Law, Anti-kickback Statute, HIPAA, professional fee coding and documentation).
  • Familiarity with ACO structures, regulations, and compliance requirements.
  • Demonstrated negotiating experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of contacts, including outside attorneys, senior management, and business associates.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to handle sensitive situations and confidential information. Position continually requires demonstrated poise, tact, diplomacy, and good judgment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
