Opportunity Overview

As a Legal Division Leadership Team member, The Head of Employment Law will support the Office of the General Counsel in managing a comprehensive range of legal services for the firm and its affiliates relative to employment law. This Associate General Counsel leads a team of employment law professionals who identify and assess potential liabilities to the firm, its affiliates, and its associates, and then provides guidance and strategies to address the related concerns. The Head of Employment Law is responsible for communicating effectively with senior executives and leaders on relative matters while partnering with key business areas to drive the execution of strategies relating to legal and employment matters.

  • Lead a multi-faceted employment strategy across our firm from strategic formulation through operational execution

  • Partner with key business areas to design, execute, and support our compensation, benefits, retirement, and Inclusion & Diversity initiatives

  • Responsible for a team of attorneys, paralegal(s), and manage outside counsel relationships; additionally integrates with and provides leadership to attorneys in other parts of the division

  • Scope of work and responsibility is for the entire firm (40,000 associates)

Position Requirements

  • Requires J.D. and license to practice in Missouri or an equivalent state

  • Requires a minimum of 10 years of progressive responsibility as an attorney in private practice, in the public sector, or in an in-house counsel capacity

  • Demonstrated leadership skills, ability to delegate and mentor, and desire to work well with others

  • Possesses exceptional legal knowledge, judgment, work ethic and integrity

  • Should have extensive knowledge of relevant legal area and regulatory environment

  • Should have demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve complex matters

  • Requires excellent verbal and written communication skills, with demonstrated ability to influence decisions at senior executive level of organizations

  • Work experience related to the securities industry is preferred

  • Leadership involvement in industry associations is preferred

  • Previous supervisory experience is preferred

Responsibilities: * This Attorney position will provide legal support to Equifax's Government Vertical, which sits within the Equifax Workforce Solutions Business Unit. * The Government Vertical provides a full suite of Equifax solutions to federal, state, and local government entities. * The position will interact directly and frequently with Senior Leadership and the Sales and Services Teams in (1) setting go-to-market strategy within the Government space; (2) leading internal and external contracting processes and pursuing continuous improvement in contracting processes and execution (including responsibility for developing and reviewing internal forms to support standard methodologies and efficient closure of sales deals); and (3) providing guidance on government-specific legal frameworks and structures (i.e., GSA Schedules and FAR regulations) * The position will provide guidance on products and solutions offered by the Business. Responsibilities will include serving as the Legal representative on the Government Vertical Leadership Team, handling the work of other attorneys and non-attorney professionals engaged in government contracting efforts, and negotiating complex deals with customers and other third parties. * Our goal is to expand the usage of Equifax's unique solutions throughout the Government Vertical, conducting contract negotiations in as expeditious a manner as possible while staying focused on protecting the interests of the Company and our Business Unit. * You will have the ability to build strong relationships, trust and share knowledge openly to effectively collaborate with business, other in-house attorneys and legal resources and outside counsel. * This position requires a broad business perspective with a deep knowledge of how government agencies (particularly on the Federal level) do business, along with applying this perspective and knowledge to legal analysis and to devise innovative solutions that meet client needs. * All work will require a "business" as well as a "legal" approach, requiring responsibilities and competencies in negotiation, structuring deals and validation of terms against commercial and industry norms, project management, and team leading that is much more than simply documenting the legal terms of an already agreed upon deal. You will demonstrate capabilities in anticipating legal issues, accepting and effectively resolving sensitive legal projects, handling difficult situations diplomatically and independently. * This position will report to the Senior Vice President-Equifax Workforce Solutions Legal. The position offers the unique opportunity to serve as lead counsel for a significant, fast-growing, and entrepreneurial line of business within Equifax, while also having the support of an experienced and established legal department. Position Requirements * Law degree from ABA accredited law school and membership in good standing of any state bar; State Bar of Missouri is preferred. * Six to 10 years of relevant experience at a law firm, federal government agency, or corporate legal department. * Strong business counseling, communications, conflict management and negotiation skills. * Confirmed experience with federal government contracting processes, procedures, and contracting vehicles. * Demonstrated communications skills, ability to handle opposing priorities in a fast-paced, demanding environment, and ability to exercise sound judgment while working autonomously. * Experience representing clients in the education, healthcare, data, analytics, professional services, technology, HR or financial services industries preferred, but not required. * Legal support emphasizes review of marketing materials, general issue spotting, contract drafting, contract negotiation, regulatory review and counsel, providing legal advice during new product development, dispute resolution, and other legal problem solving. * Conduct legal research and communicate findings, including through preparation of legal memoranda. * Proficiency in use of personal technology.
