Job Description

John Hancock IT Shared Services team is looking for an Associate Engineer with an engineering mindset and a passion for designing, developing, improving and supporting software products in the cloud, particularly working with Cloud based technologies like Azure Native applications. You thrive on delivering resilient and scalable applications, with a focus on continuous delivery and operational insight. Creativity in solving problems is your strength. You are always learning by using new tools and technologies. Communicating effectively is what you do! Operational support of technologies is nothing new to you. You understand its importance.

What you will do:

  • Takes ownership of operational and support activities

  • Collaborate with product managers, designers, other engineers, and product owner to uncover pain points and opportunities to deliver new business value through software

  • Design, develop, test, deliver, maintain & improve business applications; apply creative problem solving

  • Promote agile principles and methodology, follow various engineering practices and approaches

  • Will participate in an on-call rotation

  • Is responsible for monitoring, analyzing and optimizing application code and maintaining software environments to best support testing and deployment under continuous integration/continuous delivery

What you bring:

  • Has experience with Web application development including SOAP and Restful Web Services

  • Brings hands on experience developing code with Java, .Net or C#

  • Is familiar with JSON and/or XML data formats

  • Has knowledge and some experience with Azure or AWS based application development and concepts.

  • Is aware of and willing to learn/work with Micro Services Architecture application solutions.

  • Has worked some of the following (i.e. nice to have): Cloud-based technologies, such as PCF and/or Azure application services, GitLab, Jenkins, Artifactory, and automated build and deployment pipelines

  • Has strong SQL skills

The Fleet Software Team plays a key role in this mission by building cloud based products and tools to orchestrate our autonomous ride service. As a full stack developer, you will have the opportunity to work in an interdisciplinary role to build both the user interfaces and the distributed systems that solve important problems for our riders and operations team. Your responsibilities will span across the entire product lifecycle including design, development, and maintenance. You will also interface regularly with other interdisciplinary engineering teams to seamlessly integrate the fleet software products with our self-driving vehicle technology. Responsibilities * Build web applications in a full stack capacity for internal and external customers * Develop and maintain software and systems, both on- and off-vehicle * Translate user stories and mockups into elegant and functional user interfaces * Design and implement backend microservice architectures * Own products throughout their lifecycle including testing, debugging, and maintaining code * Engage in product team processes (design documentation, code reviews, scrum, etc.) Requirements * Strong background and proficiency in Javascript ES6 and Python * Experience building frontend web and mobile systems using modern technology stacks (e.g., React, Angular) * Backend web development experience including HTTP and WebSockets, REST API design and implementation * Experience working with relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL) * Familiarity with the Linux ecosystem, software development experience in Linux platform * Excellent communication skills in written and verbal English * Strong eagerness and initiative to learn more about robotics and self driving technologies Bonus * Software development skills using modern C++ * Experience working on robotics and IoT applications * Network programming (TCP/IP, interprocess communication) * Experience with RPC systems (gRPC, Thrift, etc.) * Experience with cloud (AWS, GCP, etc.) * Containerized/virtualized software development and deployment using Docker * Fluency in functional programming idioms & concepts (We are open to reviewing resumes of candidates who may not have these qualities yet, but demonstrate the potential to learn them on the job.)
