Associate Faculty (PT-Faculty): Occupational Safety and Health Pool

LOCATION: Lynnwood, Washington

DESCRIPTION:

The Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Department accepts applications for part-time teaching positions on an ongoing basis.

The Occupational Safety and Health department offers an Associate's degree and two different certificate programs. All OSH courses are taught in an online format. Associate OSH faculty members are responsible for the following: teaching and providing leadership to students in an online classroom environment; developing and revising curriculum; preparing teaching materials and hands-on exercises where required, preparing teaching materials, developing and evaluating student work to course and program learning outcomes; assigning grades and maintaining required records, participating in department meetings and professional development training.

Typical requirements for part-time faculty are listed below. The college is especially interested in recruiting applicants with diverse backgrounds to support our diverse student population.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Demonstrated commitment to inclusivity and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse populations.

  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally, and apply technology and appropriate software to teach courses in an online environment.

Meet one of the following:

  • Master's degree from an accredited institution in the discipline (Environmental Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene).

  • Master's degree from an accredited institution from any discipline including 15 graduate credits in the discipline.

  • Master's degree from accredited institution in any field

  • Bachelor's degree in the discipline and 5 or more years of successful teaching experience in the discipline or 5 years of relevant and current full-time professional industry experience in the discipline (Environmental Health and Safety, Safety Management, Hazardous Materials, Ergonomics, Risk Management, Public Health or a related field).

Desired Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to work with students with a wide range of backgrounds and life experiences and varying degrees of college preparedness.

  • Experience teaching in an online environment utilizing multiple approaches to teaching and learning course content utilizing an online learning management system.

  • Demonstrated successful experience teaching health and safety courses in industry or for an academic program.

  • Ability to work effectively with supervisors, colleagues, staff and students as part of an educational team.

PHYSICAL WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is typically performed online, which requires sitting for extended periods of time. Instructors use a computer to teach online courses.

COMPENSATION:

Work schedule is based on an eleven week quarterly schedule and could vary each quarter. Salary is dependent upon contract load and mode of instruction. A standard five-credit "lecture mode" class would be approximately $5,865.82 at Step A.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • You must document your citizenship or employment authorization within three days of hire.

  • Criminal background check. Prior to a new hire, a background check including criminal history will be conducted. Information from the background check will not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicant's suitability and competence to perform in the position.

  • All new positions are contingent upon funding.

  • At this time, Edmonds College does not sponsor H1-B Visas.
