Associate Faculty (PT) : Business Management AAS-T Instructor for Corrections Education

SALARY: Five-credit "lecture mode" class would be approximately $5,865.82.

LOCATION: Monroe, Washington

DESCRIPTION:

Edmonds College Corrections Education, in conjunction with the college Business Division and Business Information Technology Department invites applications for an Associate Faculty to instruct courses for the Associates of Applied Science, Transfer Degree Program located at Monroe Correctional Complex. This is a part-time faculty position, teaching quarterly, in-person only, business communication and career management courses. This position is supported by faculty training, development, and mentoring. The College seeks faculty who will take a leadership role in their departments and the college, will adapt to a variety of teaching situations, can use technology to teach effectively, and will work effectively with students, staff, and others in a correctional facility that promotes cultural diversity and student success.

This Associate Faculty position reports to the Associate Dean of Corrections Education.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business or relevant field.

  • Demonstrated successful adult teaching or training experience equivalent to one academic year.

  • Demonstrated one year of work experience that required professional business writing skills.

  • Excellent speaking, writing, listening, critical thinking, and technology skills.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree in Business or English.

  • Two years of full-time business work experience that utilized skills taught in one or more of the instructional areas (Business English, Business Communication, or Career Management).

  • Demonstrated successful experience teaching business courses that include major elements of business concepts and business writing.

  • Demonstrated successful experience teaching business communication courses that include business group coordination, audience-focused email messages, and presentations.

  • Demonstrated experience managing and working effectively with justice-involved individuals in a correctional setting.

  • Experience with Canvas or other learning management software programs.

PHYSICAL WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is performed in-person at the Monroe Correctional Complex located in Monroe, WA. Standing or sitting for long periods of time may occur. The ability to speak clearly and fully comprehend written and spoken English is essential.

WORK SCHEDULE:

The work schedule is based on an eleven-week quarterly schedule and could vary each quarter. Classes run M-F from 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • You must document your citizenship or employment authorization within three days of hire.

  • You must meet the Department of Corrections criteria for hire, including background check and mandatory training.

  • You must qualify for vocational certification (see required qualifications).

  • This position is part of a bargaining unit subject to a collective bargaining agreement.

  • Position is subject to a criminal background check.

  • All new positions are contingent upon funding.

  • Complete, sign, and submit Declaration Regarding Sexual Misconduct
