Provides process engineering expertise for assigned unit(s). Identifies long-term improvement opportunities to improve unit(s) profitability and optimize efficiency.


  • Provides troubleshooting and optimization assistance for Operations. Conducts daily performance monitoring including energy consumption, yields and "process unit health" performance indicators.

    Generates, analyzes, interprets, acts upon and disseminates these performance indicators and unit operations data for assigned units. Evaluates catalyst usage and performance.

  • Identifies long-term improvement opportunities to improve unit(s) profitability and optimize efficiency. Conducts process operations analysis and economic evaluation using simulation software.

    Reviews findings with refinery management and secures approval to implement. Exercises judgment in equipment design and process development to compromise between process requirements, economics, operator effectiveness and environment/safety objectives.

  • Provides technical input into development and implementation of operator training, operating manuals, Management of Change (MOC) development, hazard and operability reviews (HAZOPs) and piping and instrumentation diagram/drawing (P&ID) verification.

  • Interfaces with refinery's Commercial group to ensure unit constraints and yields are accurately reflected in refinery's linear programming model and disseminates individual unit's economic values to Operations and refinery management.

  • Must have physical ability to perform all essential job duties and work extended hours, including nights and weekends in process operations environment. Work may be conducted during periods of inclement weather.

    Must have physical ability to access all areas of the refinery including use of stairs and/or ladders to inspect critical process and mechanical equipment. Must be available to respond to upset conditions during off-hours.



  • Minimum undergraduate degree in chemical engineering required.


  • Minimum 3 years process engineering experience in petroleum refinery required.

This position is part of an Engineering Technical Ladder with multiple levels. The successful candidate will be placed at a level commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Responsibilities * Reviews and monitors prior shift, to check for accuracy, daily computer log and scan process board. • Records oil and gas volumes, and makes necessary changes. • Monitors and maintains daily flow charts. • Records daily tank inventory. • Monitors and maintains process readings on daily log sheets. • Acknowledges, responds to, and initiates corrections/action to process alarms. • Communicate and work with other Harvest personnel and field Operators for daily operation of the pipeline systems. • Communicate and work with Producers and other Pipeline Control facilities on a daily basis, setting flow rates, scheduled shutdowns, emergency shutdowns, pressures and any other issue that may arise. • Monitors and maintains all control loops on the pipelines. • Conducts and/or coordinates ongoing maintenance and general housekeeping of the control room. • Procures necessary materials and supplies to complete daily tasks Reads automatic gauges, as specified intervals, to determine flow rate of gas and oil. • Monitors and maintains logs of meter readings, test results, and adjustments made.• Adheres to the company's values – integrity, ownership, urgency, alignment and innovation.• Supports company vision and mission. • Adheres to established work schedule, attendance standards and is punctual to work and meetings. * Ability to be available 24 hours per day (on call for questions, emergencies, etc.).• Maintains employee confidence and protects company assets, including intellectual property, by keeping information confidential.• Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.• Other duties as assigned by management.
