This highly skilled individual will be responsible for analysis and optimization BoP (Balance of Plant) assets at

Avangrid's Wind and Solar generation facilities. This person will work with other professionals and technicians in an

international team environment on a variety of engineering-type projects related to Collector Systems ,GSU

(generation step-up) transformers, and associated components and controls. This individual shall be responsible for

investigation, monitoring, and mitigation of issues related to the interaction between wind and solar generation

equipment and medium and high voltage transmission systems. In addition, the individual will provide feedback to

internal stakeholders and external agencies in order to ensure that electrical installations are cost effective and

operating in-line with industry standards and requirements. The day-to-day activities have a wide degree of variety

involving multiple projects moving simultaneously. Travel will vary up to 20%.

Responsibilities include:

  • Work with operations staff to provide technical support on issues related to generation and maintenance at various

wind and solar projects.

  • Lead root cause analysis and remediation plans for defective equipment and enhance the design of problematic

parts for the purposes of improving reliability.

  • Research and analyze design proposals, specification, and equipment manuals to determine feasibility of

corrective actions and upgrades.

  • Perform studies to evaluate the design and performance of generating facilities with the objective of identifying

modifications that can improve operation and efficiency.

  • Provide 'Lessons Learned' in the form of reports and presentations to stakeholders, ensuring compliance with

design standards and validating accuracy of final documentation and test data.

  • Assist in the planning, coordination, budgeting of the aforementioned activities.

  • Perform administrative functions such as; technical writing, providing job status reports, requesting quotations,

and ordering materials.

  • Manage and assist internal and external personnel in the regular reporting of compliance information to company,

state, and federal agencies.

  • Participate in relevant industry standards comittees and technical advisory groups.

  • Adhere to effective internal controls.

  • Travel to wind and solar project sites within the United States.


  • BS Electrical Engineering, with an emphasis on power systems or the equivalent combination of education and


  • Well developed understanding of high and medium voltage power systems including, transformers, capacitor,

reactors and distribution/collection systems conductors.

  • Demonstrated experience with load flow analyses using industry standard software tools, e.g. DIgSILENT, PSS/E,

PowerWorld, PSLF, etc.

  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and single-line system diagrams.

  • Advanced computer skills utilizing word processing, spreadsheets, email, facility control, data management, CAD,

and reporting systems.

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited

standardization exists.

  • Familiarity with mechanical and electronic testing equipment. (i.e. voltage testers, amp clamps, oscilloscopes,

meghommeters, and various hand and power tools.)

  • Ability to climb 80 meter steel towers on occasional basis to perform root cause analysis investigation on turbine

component failures (uptower MV transformer).

  • Ability to occasionally lift items weighing up to 40 pounds.

  • Possession of comprehensive writing skills for upwards reporting.

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited

standardization exists.

  • Must work well under pressure from job demands, multi-tasking ability essential.

Preference may be given to candidates with the following:

  • Experience with Renewable Energy generation systems.

  • Masters Degree

  • Knowledge of substation, transformer, feeder, and line relay protection/philosophy

  • Knowledge of transformer design and DGA (dissolved gas analysis)

  • Ability to speak, write, and understand Spanish.
