What You'll Be Doing
The Energy, Infrastructure & Transition (EIT) team is the largest investment banking team at CIBC and focuses on clients in the United States, Canada and Europe across broad sector coverage including traditional sectors of power generation, utilities, upstream and midstream energy, transportation, and social infrastructure, plus emerging energy transition sectors including renewable power, carbon capture, hydrogen, renewable fuels, among other emerging low-carbon solutions. CIBC was named North American ESG Financial Advisor of the year in 2022 and North American Financial Advisor of the year in 2019 by Infrastructure Journal Global (IJGlobal).
This role is based in Houston and primary focus is on the midstream and pipeline, LNG and carbon capture sectors, with increasing focus on other emerging energy transition sectors. The primary roles and responsibilities for this Associate position include working with Managing Directors, Executive Directors, Directors, Associates and Analysts to complete financial modeling and analysis, research, transaction structuring and to generally support the senior professionals with business development and transaction execution activities. How You'll Succeed
Develop and audit sophisticated financial analyses and financial models
Prepare industry and financial analysis to determine client opportunities and recommendations
Lead industry valuation analysis including discounted cash flows, comparable company, and precedent transaction analyses
Assist in developing proposals to clients and potential clients for equity and debt placements, mergers, asset or company divestitures or acquisitions, and other financial products and advisory services
Organize presentations to potential clients, assisting in the development of presentation information
Conduct industry research and analysis to assist in the identification and/or analysis of investment banking business opportunities
Participate in cross functional teams and liaising with other units of CIBC Capital Markets in executing mandates or preparing proposals for clients
Assist in company due diligence investigations
Prepare offering memoranda and marketing materials
Participate in external client interaction

You can demonstrate experience with:
Undergraduate degree in Math, Engineering, Business, Economics, or related discipline
Minimum of 3 years experience
Previous investment banking or corporate finance experience, combined with other relevant corporate finance training
Extremely dedicated and motivated individual with high career aspirations. Must be capable of assuming significant levels of responsibility for assignments to be completed within short time frames
Excellent analytical ability including demonstrated knowledge of valuation techniques and practices, including cash-flow analysis
Strong technical, computational and quantitative skills
Strong interest in and knowledge of financial markets and the energy or energy infrastructure sectors
Excellent understanding of financial statements, credit analysis and accounting principles
Knowledge of accounting principles relating to financial statement preparation and business combinations
Proven ability to pay close attention to detail and multi-task under tight deadlines
Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills
Well-developed organizational skills in order to respond to shifting priorities on several simultaneous projects
Demonstrated job commitment including a willingness to work, as well as personal flexibility and adaptability in order to meet client deliverables and timelines
Excellent interpersonal, presentation, oral and written communication skills in order to convey factual and conceptual information to others and promote the interests of CIBC Capital Markets
Working Conditions
This role operates within a normal office environment with little exposure to adverse working conditions.
Some travel may be required.

At CIBC, we offer a competitive total rewards package. The Associate I - Associate III role has an expected salary range of $175,000 - 225,000 for the Houston, TX market based on experience, qualifications, and location of the position. The successful candidate may be eligible to participate in the relevant business unit's incentive compensation plan, which also may include a discretionary bonus component.
