The Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) organization is seeking an Associate Electrical Systems Design and Analysis Engineer to join the In-Space Vehicles (ISV) Program in Huntsville, AL.

The team's primary customer is NASA Human Spaceflight programs. The ISV team performs mechanical and electrical design and analysis of new development hardware, primarily for spaceflight applications including the International Space Station (ISS), CST-100, Space Launch System (SLS), NASA Docking System, and other future space platforms. The ISV also provides sustaining engineering support for existing ISS systems and ISS vehicle / payloads software development laboratories.

Position Responsibilities

  • Developing and maintaining cable / wire harness detail and assembly designs

  • Providing engineering design disposition on discrepancies (e.g., rejection tags, production action requests, shop revision requests)

  • Understanding processes, specifications and procedures that support the design and manufacture of electrical commodities

  • Supports the development of supplier statements of work and supplier procurement control drawings.

  • Participating in technical review of suppliers to facilitate product delivery, monitoring and acceptance / rejection

  • Understanding functional and physical input of the complete integrated design

  • Performs root cause analysis for issues, provides corrective actions, and communicates with internal customers and the external NASA customer.

  • Assists in supporting system design proposal preparation and new business development efforts to internal and external users/customers.

  • Successful candidates will have solid engineering foundation, understanding of electrical engineering principles, and demonstrated ability to build collaborative relationships

Work Authorization:

This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a "US Person" as defined by 22 C.F.R. 120.15 is required. "US Person" includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

This position requires the ability to obtain access to a National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) facility. Access to the facility requires a background investigation by U.S. Government authorities.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills / Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree or higher in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry.

  • 1 or more years of experience in Electrical Engineering

  • Experience with Computer Aided Design (CAD)

Preferred Qualifications:(Desired Skills / Experience):

  • Experience in wire harness design

  • UG NX experience

  • Mentor Graphics experience

  • Prior experience designing cables for space / NASA applications

  • Previous experience in the defense or aerospace industry

  • Experience on large space products

  • Experience working with wire separation requirements and other EME considerations

Typical Education / Experience:

Typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 2 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. Master). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Relocation:

Relocation assistance is not a negotiable benefit for this position. Candidates must live in the immediate area or relocate at their own expense.

The Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) organization is seeking an Associate Mechanical Systems Design & Analysis Engineer to join the Design Engineering Team in Huntsville, AL on the Patriot Advanced Capability (PAC-3) missile-defense program. The Design Engineering team is responsible for designing RADAR seeker upgrades and next generation concepts, as well as supporting production and special test equipment design. Boeing has a multi-year contract to develop, test, and manufacture the PAC-3 RADAR seeker. This program encompasses concurrent design, test and manufacturing as new upgrades to this complex electro-mechanical assembly are incorporated into production. This long-term program is rapidly growing in Huntsville, Alabama, due to design updates, production growth, and Boeing facilities consolidations. Position Responsibilities: * Develops and documents of mechanical and thermal environments to establish the system design according to customer desires and contract requirements. * Supports activities to validate and verify mechanical systems requirements. * Develops, maintains or modifies system components' designs/proposals to provide installation and detail documentation. * Familiarity with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T). * Development of statements-of-work and technical performance specifications. * Develops of test plans/procedures and supports the execution test events. * Supports Root Cause/Corrective Action (RCCA) investigations and resolutions. * Supports the execution of various methods of testing and analysis to support design and production and to ensure system designs meet operational and functional requirements. * Conducts formal trade studies and literature research to support future product designs. * Develops solutions to routine technical problems of limited scope. Work Authorization: This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S Security Clearance for which the US Government requires US Citizenship. Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience): * Experience in Finite Element Analysis of structures utilizing MSDC PATRAN/NASTRAN. * Previous exposure with developing thermal, vibration, and Environmental Stress Screening equipment and processes for electronic circuit card assemblies and complex electro-mechanical assemblies. * Previous exposure with RCCA problem resolution techniques. * Knowledge in electronic packaging design and analysis (including knowledge of mechanical aspects of electronics such as solder joint integrity). * Previous exposure with developing products for harsh, missile flight environments. * Previous exposure with creation, release, and configuration of detailed technical documentation packages. * Previous exposure with gimbals or articulated robotic arms. * Previous exposure supporting microwave components such as wave guides and antennas. * Previous exposure with working with suppliers.
