Demonstrated interest in our core campaign areas — especially education — and the United Nations’ Global Goals is a major plus.

Responsibilities

Editing multiple stories and content pieces per day, working with writers and interns to strengthen the quality of work and maximize the impact and shared goals across the organization

Managing two editorial interns: recruiting, hiring, onboarding, fielding and discussing pitches, editing their work, and further developing the internship program

Researching, ideating, pitching, and writing content in a variety of formats

Collaborating regularly with video, social, photo, and advocacy teams on ideation, creation, and copy editing

Acting as editorial team liaison with business development and partnerships teams to develop compelling partner content

Assisting with editorial calendar, production timelines, and special projects across the organization

Assisting Deputy Editor and Editor-in-Chief as needed and backfilling role in Deputy Editor’s absence

Requirements

Essential Skills & Experience

● At least 3 years’ experience writing and at least 1 year editing in a digital format for a media or content organization

● Fundamental understanding of the basics of journalism

● A smart, critical eye

● Proven experience or interest in social impact and Global Citizen’s coverage areas

● Aptitude for writing about complex world events and policy issues in concise, approachable

ways for general readers

● Deep familiarity with social media, and how to frame and position content to perform well

● Proven experience with managing multiple projects

● Ability to adhere to tight deadlines

● Creative spirit and enthusiastic work ethic

Preferred Skills & Experience

● Experience with content management systems

● Familiarity with AP Style, basic HTML, and Photoshop

● A creative and engaging writing style

● Team player who is flexible and can pivot as needed
Global Citizen New York NY
