Division Overview:

CBSi Games is the #1 network of games media sites and includes some of the most popular gaming destinations in the world including GameSpot, GameFAQs, Giant Bomb, and Comic Vine.

GameSpot Universe is GameSpot's home for everything gamers love besides games - movies, TV, anime, comics and more.

Role Details:

The Associate Editor, News, will work as part of GameSpot's global editorial news team, bringing opinion and personality to help us in our mission of creating the best games coverage online. We need someone capable of primarily producing news-focused content around new and upcoming PC and console games. We're looking for someone who can not only write informative and entertaining coverage of games, but who can also find original angles from which to approach games.

We're looking for a talented writer with a strong work ethic, a team-first mentality, and a desire to share their opinions with the GameSpot audience. A broad knowledge of video games is a must; if you typically devote all of your gaming time to a single series or genre, this might not be the job for you. You don't need to be knowledgeable about every gaming genre, but the successful applicant will have a thorough knowledge of and appreciation for contemporary video games as a whole.

The successful applicant will also be expected to be part of our peer-editing process, so an ability to accept and give constructive criticism is required.

Infrequent national and international travel to cover games events is also an expected part of the job.

Your Day-to-Day:

  • Write compelling editorial news copy that encompasses a wide variety of games-focused areas

  • Generate ideas for coverage based on the biggest game releases and news stories

  • Work with our in-house and global video teams to create, script, and feature in editorial videos

  • Contribute to our peer-review system for all GameSpot content on a daily basis

  • Write and contribute to all other types of GameSpot content, including reviews, features, analysis, opinion, and more

  • Attend industry events both locally and internationally

What you bring to the team:

You have -

  • Demonstrable video game-related writing experience

  • Working knowledge of multiple gameplay genres and game series

  • 2+ years experience at a global online publication

  • High standards of editorial excellence

  • Passion for video games and pop culture entertainment

  • Enthusiasm and the desire to work closely with a group of your peers

You might also have -

  • An active online presence across popular social media platforms and experience with game streaming

  • Knowledge of current internet publishing trends and SEO principles

  • An understanding of AP's style rules and a preference for the Oxford comma
