Purpose and Job Summary

ORIX USA is seeking an experienced engineering professional to assist with the technical and business development aspects of the fast-paced renewable energy business, focusing on solar, wind and energy storage, based in New York City. The position is in the investment team and involves due diligence on investment targets, from projects to large development platforms, asset management of the portfolio companies, and business development activities to support ORIX's ambitious growth trajectory in the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out due diligence on investment targets, covering project development feasibility, site suitability, energy yields, grid connection, construction design and procurement, technological solutions, commercial off-take, and other aspects as needed to assess solar, wind and energy storage projects.

  • Appoint technical advisors to support and complement due diligence and owner's engineering works.

  • Manage and monitor the key operational and technical assumptions in the financial models.

  • Operational management and support of portfolio assets in coordination with the teams across the technical services spectrum, from development to design, and construction to operations

  • Support the team's business development activities, including new opportunity origination, screening, initial appraisals, and partnership-building.

  • Prepare and present relevant material in investment case memos.

  • Cross-functional liaising with teams, namely legal, finance and back-office

Education, Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or higher, in Science or Engineering (electrical or mechanical or related discipline as appropriate), with strong academic background.

  • A minimum of 8+ years of experience of solar / wind farm engineering and construction, including balance of plant, with a developer, manufacturer, consultancy, or other relevant related industry player in the renewables space.

  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills.

  • General knowledge of market dynamics across the US ISO/RTOs, related to power markets, interconnection queues and general development processes.

  • Sound understanding of standard commercial arrangements in the renewable industry such as EPC and O&M contracts, and PPAs.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, and ability to liaise at all levels.

  • Enjoy and be effective at developing and nurturing team relationships.

Considered a plus.

  • Direct experience in energy storage projects, either from a technology perspective, a commercial offtake perspective or a combination of both

  • An MBA, a finance degree/qualification or good knowledge of valuation methods

  • Based in New York City and willing to travel frequently mainly across the country but also overseas.

  • Strong self-learning skills, takes initiatives.

Annual base salary gross: $140,000 - $200,000 (NY only). The base salary range represents the estimated low and high end of the ORIX USA's salary for this position. Actual base salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as candidate's qualifications, skills, competencies and proficiency for the role. The base pay is one component of ORIX USA's total compensation package for employees.
