Required Qualifications

  • 4-6 years of professional experience to include administrative and staff management and supervision and technical light and sound system reinforcement, concert production, theater production, and/or construction (at general contractor level) OR Master's Degree with 1-2 years of administrative and technical sound and light system experience.

  • Effective interpersonal, written, and electronic communications skills, including the ability to convey complex information in accessible terms to diverse or multicultural audiences.

  • Ability to establish, build and maintain effective working relationships based on respect, empathy and honesty with diverse groups and individuals.

  • Ability to manage and maintain confidential and private information; uses confidential, sensitive and/or private records and information, protects information appropriately.

  • Computer competence using software and enterprise systems appropriate for the complexities of the role and its functions.

  • Knowledge of Deaf culture, American Sign Language (ASL), or willingness to learn.

  • Ability or experience in supervising staff.

  • Strong background in event production (operations and engineering) and a thorough knowledge of the current tools technologies including network and IT infrastructures for Audio and Lighting workflows.

  • In-depth knowledge of Audio signal processing systems (analog and digital).

  • In-depth knowledge of lighting systems both conventional and intelligent as well as analog and network based control.

  • Solid understanding of entertainment rigging principles.

  • General knowledge of woodworking and metalworking.

  • Knowledge and experience in site design, event layout, equipment configuration and function, staffing requirements and capability, and integration of all related services for event planning, staging and operation of remotes.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Ability to thoroughly research problems and implement their solutions.

  • Business operation understanding, including accounting/budgeting and personnel.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with testing and maintenance of audio, lighting, rigging, staging, power distribution equipment, electronic equipment

  • Preferred Bachelor's degree in BBA/ME/EE/CE/IT, Theatre Design and Technology or other related technical field but not required

  • Prior experience in an educational setting

Job Summary

Reporting to the Senior Associate Director of the Campus Life Complex this position provides primary leadership for all of Tech Crew. This individual assists in supporting the university's objectives by providing excellent service and trained staff overseeing program support for all events held in university facilities sponsored by the university or outside programming units. This position will provide overall strategic leadership and oversight for all events in university facilities that require technical skills in sound, lighting and electrical systems. This position oversees the design and installation of facility upgrades and also works with contractors on the design of these systems in new facilities.

This position requires a dynamic leader with excellent verbal and written skills as well as strong administrative, supervision, budget and accounting skills. This position provides operational leadership for a large staff which includes a professional Assistant Director as well as co-op and/or temporary employees and a large staff of over 70 student employees. This position also plans for the ongoing utilization and replacement of Tech Crew operating systems overseeing an inventory worth more than $1.75 million. Nights and weekends are often required for all staff working in Tech Crew, especially during peak production times.
