What you will be doing?

  • Drive performance and innovation of SSU Contracts people, processes and technology

  • Lead site contracts teams to achieve clinical deliverables to committed timelines, promoting critical path methodologies while ensuring quality and compliance.

  • Lead a risk-based approach on cycle times and language. Ensures strong, objective controls over legal language, budget offerings and protecting PRA and its clients.

  • Ensure teams are delivering within acceptable scope and resource constraints.

  • Support RFI, RFP and Bid Defense requirements.

  • Ensure teams are trained and equipped to deliver excellence

  • Deploy tactics to build excellence in staff who truly own delivery of their assigned contracting needs, efficiently minimizing cycle times. Deploy and help development of contracting strategy, negotiation skills and tactics development and client consultancy.

  • Partner with the wider Start Up leadership group in pursuit of global KPI achievements

  • Ensure seamless collaboration between SSU Contracts staff and the wider StartUp team for that site and study.

  • Build trusting and effective regional networks within both GSSU and the wider business to service clients

  • Manage and support the professional development of the contract managers within your reporting line and region

  • Provide interim back up support for peers, Exec leadership and others throughout GSSU as may be required from time to time.

What do you need to have?

  • 4+ years managing or leading Contracts or Clinical delivery functions required

  • Experience managing direct and indirect reports across the US required

  • Positive personality, effectively engaging and collaborating with new people in a matrix organization required

  • Results driven with strong sense of ownership of deliverables; Ability to positively influence clients, peers and thought leaders required

  • Cultural awareness and sensitivity, paired with strong resilience and ability to operate under pressure required

  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate and mitigate risk required

  • Strong capability of prioritizing task required

  • Excellent negotiator with varied collaborative negotiation strategy experiences required

  • Timeline and efficiency focused required

  • Bachelor's degree or international equivalent required

  • Fluent English language skills required


  • CRO or Pharma experience preferred

  • Formal legal training and qualifications pertinent to Commercial Contracting preferred

  • 2+ years experience in roles requiring first hand contract negotiation experience and/or leading teams doing such preferred

  • Substantial experience working in a fully outsourced, professional services business model with full accountability for utilization and delivery risk preferred

  • Experience of Full Service Provider delivery models and strong understanding of how to operate them successfully. Understanding the difference compared to a professional services outsource model preferred

  • Experience in both North America and Latin America preferred

This role involves the acquisition of supplies, materials, services and equipment required to support the company. This could involve receiving quotes, bids and offers for the recording of information and source selection. A high degree of accuracy in the development and maintenance of records and contracts and procurement procedures is required. The candidate will also process incoming invoices and provide general administrative support services to the Contracts Department. This role reports to the Director, Contracts and our headquarters are in Arlington, VA but we are open to non-local candidates. Responsibilities: * Perform pre-solicitation activities in accordance with established procurement procedures and standards. * Serve as a liaison between Contracts Department and assigned user departments. * Perform acquisition planning activities with other department staff as required. * Initiate and respond to telephone inquiries regarding procurement transactions. * Prepare and maintain departmental files containing all contracts, purchase orders, solicitations, emergency and sole source procurements. * Prepare and update various contracting activity reports on a routine basis and as requested. * Create and maintain the Standard Operating Procedures for tasks. * Manage file cabinet organization, log for content and active contracts and other priority tracking. * Obtain signatures when required and distributes contractual documents. * Provide a range of administrative services, e.g., support, coordination, planning, and follow-up on diverse department activities. * Compile materials and agendas for a variety of meetings. * Receive, process, and obtain approvals on incoming invoices and routes to Accounts Payable for payment. * Additional duties as assigned. Required Qualifications: * Minimum of 1-3 years of related experience. * Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or closely related field. * Must be able to obtain a security clearance. * Strong communication and interpersonal skills. * Able to work independently, set priorities and meet deadlines using exceptional organizational skills. * Capable of expressing ideas and conveying information effectively, both orally and in writing. Preferred Qualifications: * Training or college courses in procurement practices and guidelines. * Knowledge of JAMIS. Computer Skills: * Proficiency in all Microsoft Office products.
