The Associate Director of Belonging Cohorts is responsible for supporting both First Ascent (FAS) and Opportunity Scholar (OSP) programs which focus on low-income, first generation, and high achieving undergraduate students. Responsibilities will include supporting both programs with recruiting, programming, assessment, budget, scholarship management, supervision of program staff, and, student support. The cohort programs are designed to recruit promising leaders with significant financial need to attend the Eccles School. In collaboration with the program coordinators, Director, and board of advisors, the Associate Director is required to foster a successful transition to the university environment, provide resources and support to help with personal/social/academic issues, provide leadership and team building activities, assist students in identifying resources for academic success, link students with opportunities to engage in deep learning and encourage timely graduation. This position has reports directly to the Director of Belonging Cohorts.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the management of day-to-day programmatic operations for FAS & OSP cohort programs by way of overseeing and supporting the Program Managers.

  • Ensure students' needs are met by managing logistical oversight of U of U student platforms and scheduling management systems.

  • Support the strategy and implementation of student programming events and education.

  • Support the development of a recruiting strategy for incoming students.

  • Works as lead to partner with Marketing & Communication to develop a communications strategy for program donors and students.

  • Provide advising and mentorship to a caseload of Opportunity Scholars Program students throughout the college career.

  • Ensure students have the resources they need to be successful (counseling, computers, tutoring, academic advising, and career coaching).

  • Foster successful transition to the university environment, provide counseling support for personal issues, and offer leadership and community-building activities.

  • Nurtures collaborative relationships with Eccles Schools and university community members to connect students with opportunities for deep learning and expansion of network.

  • Helps build student pathways throughout undergraduate student offices, resources, events and opportunities in the David Eccles School of Business.

  • Works with Director of Belonging Cohorts to assess and maintain the quality of both programs.

  • As requested, prepares reports and records on program status and progress.

  • May be asked to participate as an ex-officio member of the different Board of Advisors.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Business or Public Administration, a related area, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience). Six years of progressively more responsible management experience; and demonstrated leadership, human relations and effective communication skills also required.

Master's degree in Business Administration or related area preferred.

Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.

Preferences

  • MEd or Master's degree in Education, Business, Policy and Public Administration, Communication, or similar.

  • 4+ years of experience working with undergraduate students

  • 4+ years of experience in project or program management, preferably in collaboration with academic, industry, and community entities.

  • 4+ years of experience supervising or mentoring students.

  • Understanding of how to apply student development theory to programmatic and curricular-focused trainings and events.
