Student Leadership & Development (SLD) is conducting a search for an Associate Director to join a team consisting of four (4) Assistant Directors, two (2) Associate Directors, one (1) Administrative Coordinator, and one (1) Director. SLD coordinates the following learning opportunities: ASLMU & GSLMU (undergraduate and graduate student government), Registered Student Organizations, Mane Entertainment (student programming board), Sorority & Fraternity Life.

The Associate Director for Student Involvement will be responsible for the strategic oversight of student involvement experiences and the direct advisement of undergraduate and graduate student government and all affiliated leaders, boards, and committees. The Associate Director will lead the two person professional staff team in student involvement to further the University's commitment to excellence in student advocacy, programming, and engagement. This position will supervise the professional staff responsible for all campus-wide programming coordinated by Mane Entertainment, the student programming board, and the 200+ registered student organization community.

The Division of Student Affairs, through the LMU EXP, guides students in finding value in their experiences outside the classroom at LMU. At the core of the LMU EXP are the Five Pillars that inspire students to integrate knowledge with action and become leaders who transform the world.

Position Specific Responsibilities

Student Government Specific Responsibilities

  • Serve as a primary advisor responsible for the oversight, advisement and advancement of the LMU graduate and undergraduate student government (GSLMU & ASLMU).

  • Supervise all aspects of GSLMU including advising and training of the over 20 members of the GSLMU Executive Board, Senate and Directors.

  • Supervise all aspects of ASLMU including advising and training of the over 30 members of the ASLMU Leadership Team and Senate.

  • Supervise all fiscal affairs of GSLMU and ASLMU including budgeting, approval of expenditures and the reconciliation of operating budgets. Train and advise the GSLMU and ASLMU student fee allocation committees and Chief Financial Officers.

  • Supervise all events and programs sponsored by GSLMU and ASLMU such as research symposiums, networking events, concerts, speakers, performers, rallies, forums, dances and special events.

  • Cultivate and maintain positive and active working relationships with all campus and community partners. Work collaboratively with the GSLMU and ASLMU Judiciary and Elections Committee Advisors.

Student Involvement Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Supervise the team, comprised of two professional staff and the graduate and/or undergraduate student staff, collectively responsible for the advancement of student involvement at LMU. This specifically includes supervising professional staff responsible for the student programming board and all registered student organizations.

  • Expand and improve the University's strong commitment to high quality curricular and co-curricular activities.

  • Compile, analyze and distribute student leadership and involvement statistics, database information, and comprehensive reports.

  • Serve as the primary budget administrator for student government, program board and student organization budgets. Work with professional staff and student leadership to maintain sound fiscal practices.

  • Responsible for grant writing and other development efforts aimed at the advancement of the student involvement experience at LMU.

  • Advise the University on federal regulations and compliance, in addition to the needs and interests of the graduate and undergraduate student community.

Student Leadership & Development Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement Ignatian student leadership programs. Expand and improve the University's strong commitment to leadership opportunities and high quality co-curricular activities. All work in this area will be based on the Jesuit and Marymount model of service and leadership.

  • Perform ongoing program assessment for Student Leadership & Development. Collect and analyze data, prepare and write reports for assessment and new program proposals. Prepare weekly and monthly activity reports, including student participation and evaluations.

  • Actively participate in the production of campus-wide programs, events, special projects, and weekend activities. Promote full participation of a diverse student population in all involvement opportunities within student life. Work collaboratively with staff in the Division of Student Affairs to develop joint student programming through the Student EXP.

  • Serve on Student Affairs and University-wide Committees. Represent LMU within professional associations and organizations. Attend relevant conferences or training programs to remain on the cutting edge in the field. Serve as a resource and referral agent for students, their families, faculty, staff and the community.

  • Complete other duties as assigned by the Director of Student Leadership & Development.

Experience/Qualifications

  • Minimum 4 years program direction, staff supervision, and student advisement experience in progressively responsible positions.

  • Understand the purpose and mission of Jesuit higher education and the University's commitment to its Catholic tradition.

  • Demonstrated knowledge in the areas of: student government, social change model, leadership development, student development, program coordination, student leader advisement, conflict management, mediation, group dynamics, assessment and fiscal management.

  • Communicate and employ interpersonal actions that model high standards of professional, responsible, accountable, and ethical conduct.

  • Demonstrate a commitment to outstanding customer service.

  • Demonstrated knowledge in the areas of: student government, social change model, leadership development, student development, program coordination, student leader advisement, conflict management, mediation, group dynamics, assessment and fiscal management.

  • Exemplary communication skills (both written and oral) evidenced by background in preparing comprehensive reports and executive summaries incorporating complex, highly technical information.

  • Highly developed organizational and leadership skills.

  • Ability to work weeknight and weekend hours.

  • Demonstrated computer competency and preferably knowledgeable of Microsoft, Anthology platforms and social media platforms.

Required Education

  • Typically a Masters Degree in student development in higher education or related field or equivalent experience. The incumbent will be expected to continue upgrading knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to keep abreast of regulation/policy changes.

Salary range

$66,560.00 - $87,776.00 Salary commensurate with education and experience.
