General Description:
The Associate Director of Skilled Trades and Transportation programs will play a vital role in developing and implementing a comprehensive new portfolio of short-term workforce and industry certification preparation programs for NOVA Workforce. These programs will cover topics such as electrical, HVAC, plumbing, welding, general construction, facilities maintenance, carpentry, heavy equipment, and commercial driver's licenses. The Associate Director will provide leadership, development, and management of skilled trades and transportation-related contract training, pre-apprenticeship, and apprenticeship activities for the department. This role requires the effective supervision of adjunct instructors, ensuring their alignment with evolving program needs.
Duties and Tasks:
Develops and implements short and long-term strategies for skilled trades program offerings to accomplish strategic goals and departmental objectives.
This role cultivates constructive working relationships, collaborating with all divisions of the college, and fosters partnerships with local businesses, industry associations, and unions.
Provides leadership, development, and management of skilled trades and transportation programs offered across multiple college locations where NOVA workforce programs are offered.
Provides leadership, development, and management of contract training and apprenticeship activities.
Implements and manages course schedules, ensuring effective assignment and monitoring of adjunct instructor workloads.
Stays abreast of current industry trends and needs, ensuring compliance with the latest credential requirements.
Evaluates the effectiveness of courses and programs; make recommendations for improvements, additions, and deletions; maintain liaison with advisory boards and credentialing agencies to ensure courses are current and up-to-date.
Researches, develops, and executes special initiatives to improve student outcomes and certification pass rates; tracks the academic progress of students, including creating reports and presenting data on certification status.
Attends conferences and meetings and serves on committees internal and external to the college; and maintains strong industry contacts and relationships.
Builds and nurtures client relationships with regional businesses, community partners, federal, state and local government officials.
Manages business partner agreements and vendor contracts as applicable.
Develops, implements, and monitors an annual operating budget in collaboration with the supervisor.
Directs the recruitment, selection, hiring, and development of teaching faculty (full-time and adjunct) and staff in accordance with the college's procedures.
Performs routine and specialized administrative and academic tasks and performs special projects as assigned.
Cultivates constructive working relationships, collaborating with all divisions of the college to ensure seamless integration of skilled trades and transportation programs.
Special Assignments:
May be required to perform other duties as assigned.
May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
This position is restricted and is funded with non-continuous or non-recurring funding and is subject to continuation based on fiscal year funds and the needs of the College.

Demonstrated knowledge of curricula and instructional practices for the industry.
Strong organizational and managerial skills to oversee programs.
Background in curriculum development, training implementation, and evaluation within the context of skilled trades and transportation programs.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to cultivate constructive working relationships with all divisions of the college and external stakeholders.
Ability to represent the program at conferences, meetings, and on internal and external committees to the college.
Ability to proactively identify and address challenges in program implementation and student outcomes, with a focus on industry certification status and overall program success.
Ability to engage in outreach activities, foster relationships with industry partners, and promote skilled trades and transportation programs.
Understanding of skilled trades facilities and issues, with the ability to communicate effectively with relevant support departments.
Competence in utilizing Microsoft Office tools for effective communication and collaboration within the college and with external partners.
Ability to create and maintain documents, spreadsheets, and presentations to support program development, budgeting, and reporting.
Ability to work in a diverse, multi-ethnic, multi-cultural work environment.
Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
Required Qualifications:
Experience in skilled trades and transportation industries such as electrical, HVAC, plumbing, welding, general construction and building maintenance, carpentry, heavy equipment operations, and commercial driver's licenses.
Supervisory and/or managerial experience.
