Gilead is hiring an Associate Director level experienced, well-organized professional, who will manage the development of scientific publications and support implementation of the strategic Oncology publication plans for global clinical studies and non-clinical sources, including HEOR, Epidemiology, RWE, Payer, Non-interventional, and database studies, to demonstrate the value of pipeline and inline products in Oncology. This position is located at our Headquarters in Foster City, CA or Parsippany, NJ.

Associate Director, Scientific Publications responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Oversee publication development and timely execution of abstracts, posters, oral presentations, and manuscripts per GPP and Gilead Policy

  • Manage day-to-day external publication agency to ensure publications tactics are on budget and timelines

  • Support the TA regarding publication program status by providing proactive communication of overall status with a cross-functional team, investigators, and alliance partners to ensure the needs of the regions and key countries

  • Maintain and execute the Global Publication Plan (GPP) for one or more Gilead Oncology products/indications in collaboration with Clinical Research, Commercial, DevOps, HEOR, and Medical Affairs

  • Lead cross functional global publication team meetings, in collaboration with TA Global Publication Director

  • Lead the development of a global disease-area scientific publication objectives and tactical plan, in collaboration with TA Global Publication Director

  • Provide recommendations for author decisions based on experience and knowledge of publication landscape (e.g., selection of appropriate journals and congresses, navigate authorship order disputes, etc)

  • Utilize the companywide iEnvision system for planning and execution of company-produced publications, and provide real-time publication-related reports and metrics

  • Collaborate effectively to support TA in countries or regions to ensure publication activities are captured and globally aligned while still meeting local needs

  • Support the development of medical and scientific lexicons as needed in close collaboration with Publication Director and cross-functional colleagues

  • Ensure compliance with Gilead publication policy and external publication guidelines

  • Contribute to the development of the publications group, sharing best practices and opportunities to improve effectiveness and/or efficiency

Additional responsibilities include the following:

  • Understand the evolving publications landscape through engagement with and participation in professional societies (e.g., ISMPP) to ensure compliance with all external codes and ethical standards in medical publishing and keep Gilead at the forefront of innovation in this space

  • Attend scientific congresses and periodic internal on-site meetings for the TA and/or department to ensure the accurate and appropriate presentation of Gilead scientific evidence and support strategic planning. Travel as required (up to 20%)

Educational Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in the health sciences or communication field with 5-8 years of related experience

  • Advanced Degree (PhD, MD, PharmD, MSc) with 3-5 years of related experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in medical communications gained through working in the pharmaceutical industry or medical communications agency

  • Broad understanding of drug development process

  • Demonstrated budget and resource management skills in a global organization

  • Excellent leadership, communication, presentation, and project management skills to deliver in a complex multidisciplinary environment

  • Interpersonal skill to establish and maintain professional relationships with internal colleagues and leadership, external experts, investigators, journal editors, and professional organizations

  • Organizational skill to effectively manage multiple complex stakeholders and projects within budget and timelines

  • Experience in genitourinary oncology

  • CMPP certification

  • Clear understanding of current publication environment, good publication practices, Sunshine Act/Pharma Code of Conduct, ICMJE, GPP3, and other global guidelines related to publications, scientific data communication, and transparency standards

  • Experience leading critical functional or cross-functional initiatives

The salary range for this position is: $191,335.00 - $247,610.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package.
