RISE - Regional Technical Expert

Work at the interface of pharma, genomics, big data engineering, and advanced analytics. The candidate will significantly contribute to the development of modern compute services for BMS scientists.

Job Description

The role requires someone who can seamlessly mesh tech know-how with business acumen to help navigate R&D cloud, CoLo, and on-premise computing needs, including infrastructure design, maintenance, support, and planning.

Not only are you experienced in cloud-based tech you have intimate knowledge of how best to customize these attributes to our business to help us become more secure and efficient.

Not only can you help us connect the dots and evolve our cloud capabilities over time, but you're also evolving your own capabilities as an engineer and keeping an eye on developments that can support our expansion and help us implement those, too.

Job Functions

  • Lead as the IT advocate for corresponding site's scientists and have the accountability for delivering digital capabilities to the site, as the representative of IT delivery team for R&ED.

  • Enable and support R&ED scientists running scientific experiments in the research compute environment.

  • Collaborate withscientists and IT staffto create and implement effective cloud-based and on-premises solutions for research.

  • Implement solutions as needed, troubleshoot or debug to resolve technical support issues for research teams following policies and procedures.

  • Educate and train teams on applications or solutions and provide assistance as required.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, data science, or a scientific discipline in chemistry-, biology-, or medical-related field, or relevant industry experience.

  • Strong verbal and written communications skills, organized, and the ability to stay focused on completing tasks and meeting goals.

  • Five to seven years' experience in supporting on-premises and cloud infrastructure using Linux and Windows operating systems

  • Three to five years' experience in a Cloud Engineer role or related position.

  • Proficiency in shell scripting (BASH, SH, CSH) in Linux/UNIX,

  • Familiar with using various storage solutions and protocols (S3, EBS, EFS, NFS, CIFS).

  • Solid understanding of networking and internet protocols, including TCP/IP, DNS, SMTP, HTTP and distributed networks.

  • Familiar with HPC utilizing SGE, Amazon Parallel Cluster, Batch, Docker, and Google (GCP).

  • Working knowledge of one or more of the following: R, Python, XML, JSON, YAML

  • Experience using monitoring solutions like CloudWatch and Audit trail.

  • Knowledge of web services, API, REST and RPC.

  • Database experience, including knowledge of SQL and NoSQL, and related data stores.

  • Kubernetes experience with a container-orchestration system for automating computer application deployment, scaling, and management.

  • Extensive experience with open-source technology, software development and system engineering.

  • An understanding of writing Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC), using tools like CloudFormation or Terraform.

  • Certification as an AWS Solutions Architect, Cloud Security Certification, and/or OpenStack Administrator Certifications a plus. (Other cloud-related certification also a plus.)

Specifically, this position will focus on leading projects to facilitate scientific data capture and analysis based on Voyager Therapeutics priorities and business needs. The position requires technical knowledge of lab data management and processing in addition to interpersonal skills to drive drug discovery projects to completion. Position Specific Responsibilities: * Support of R&D informatics systems in the areas of scientific data capture, reporting, analysis and workflow management. * Develop and implement phase-appropriate electronic systems for R&D support, including data management systems (ELN, LIMS, reporting, document management, etc.) * Support and maintain Benchling, a SaaS R&D application * Conduct business analysis, project management, system implementation, and application support to facilitate the definition of relevant business questions and data systems for answering them. * Ensure that all company data processes comply with industry standards and achieve buy-in from the organization on these plans * Work closely with teams to enable the progress of projects * Contribute to business processes improvements within area of responsibility. * Ensure the informatics systems are running efficiently and are highly available * Additionally, participate and lead infrastructure services and scientific computing efforts in support of our research and development activities * Provide insight into new technologies that focus on supporting business requirements and coordinating the procurement and configuration of those technologies. * Create proper documentation and provide training to end-users. * Troubleshoot technical issues and coordinate with scientists and vendors on a resolution. * Work with the clinical development team to drive clinical informatics and clinical data management * Manage internal and external resources based on project requirements Specialized Knowledge & Skills: * Strong communication, time management, and presentation skills * Excellent people, analytical, and written/verbal communication skills * Ability to translate user requirements into analysis pipelines or tools * Deep understanding of research and development informatics landscape * Expertise in the support and maintenance of informatics solutions, such as ELN and LIMS, especially Benchling * Experienced with infrastructure and scientific computing implementation and improvement projects * Practical understanding of relational database design and development * Familiarity with business applications such as SharePoint and Microsoft Teams is a plus Requirements: Educational Requirements: Identify the educational qualifications that an employee must possess to satisfactory perform the job duties and responsibilities. * BS/MS in Computer Science, Life Science or related field with 10+ years of industry experience or direct experience in database/application management, and/or business analysis for R&D within the pharmaceutical industry or equivalent Experience: Identify the minimum number of full-time experiences required in terms of years and the type of work experience that an employee needs to be qualified for the job. * Experience working directly with stakeholders to document detailed software requirements, user stories, business processes and software specifications for both custom and Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) systems. * Experience with evaluating, implementing and managing scientific data management platforms, cloud computing (Azure/AWS), Document control/electronic lab notebook software, on-site storage solutions and IT vendor services * Ability to identify impediments to complex business and research issues and provide timely and cost-effective solutions * Solid scientific/ technical knowledge to be able to successfully ensure project scope and fit technology for applications, networking, and information systems strategic roadmap and execution of all Informatics solutions and IT services * Experience with software validation and use of validated systems is a plus * Experience with Spotfire or other data visualization software is a plus * Experience with Veeva systems (inc.
