The Project Management Organization (PMO) function accelerates the delivery of innovative medicines to patients by driving portfolio strategy and program excellence through insight-based decision-making. The Project Management Leader (PML) represents the primary PMO interface to the Janssen R&D Compound Development Teams (CDTs).
The PML has the following three key areas of responsibility to deliver program outcomes:
Creatively drive CDT decision making
Operationalizes the CDT Strategy
Optimizes the CDT Operating Environment
Co-Lead the CDT/subteams to meet or exceed the team goals by providing global cross-functional operational leadership in a matrix organization. This includes optimizing plans through constructive challenge and continuous dialog with the different functions to ensure all activities are aligned with JRD and team objectives.
Drive insight generation, interpretation and implementation to facilitate decision making and strategy refinement
May serve as PML on complex unconventional drug development projects requiring the development of new processes, creatively bridging across co-development partnerships, navigating complex financial requirements, etc. to deliver team goals and objectives
Holds the cross-functional team accountable to develop and deliver the governance-approved compound development plan within budget, timelines and scope
Navigate the team through complexities of drug development and JRD to obtain strategy approval and secure necessary resources
Create and flexibly deploy core PML methodologies, tools and frameworks to operationalize the strategy
Ensure the right team capabilities, working styles, resiliency, and ability to deliver under pressure
Challenge the status quo and simplify work; continually question and remove burdensome processes
Foster team confidence and safeguard team performance through coaching and periodic reviews of team health
BS degree in life sciences, engineering, or business management is required with at least 3 years of experience in project management, team leadership, and/or functional line management in one or more of the major R&D functions OR a minimum of 8 years equivalent industry experience with at least 3 years of project management experience is required
A PhD/PharmD or other advanced degrees in a related scientific degree/qualification is preferred.
Five (5) years of successful performance on a standard priority project as a PML (or equivalent experience in a similar drug development role in other departments or companies) is preferred.
The successful management of two or more governance stage gate decisions is preferred.
Preparing teams in effective stage-gate decision making is preferred
Prior experience as a member of a compound development team is preferred.
Management of a large program and/or several concurrent smaller programs (e.g. early stage or line extensions) with increasing levels of complexity and functional/external interactions is preferred.
A record of successful governance body and/or stakeholder management is preferred.
