We are looking for an extraordinary, highly motivated leader to join our growing global Engineering team. The successful candidate will have strong business acumen with a track record of leading product development teams to execute on plan. The selected candidate will use these skills to optimize our portfolio of cutting-edge intelligent cardiac pump systems, both for acute treatment as well as long term support systems.

She/he will ideally have a background in developing medical device platforms, with strong design control and product development experience. She/he must showcase an inspirational and collaborative leadership style as this position will interact with all functions, both commercial and technical (i.e. research, manufacturing, quality, regulatory, clinical, marketing) to ensure Abiomed continues on our successful mission to recover hearts and save lives.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Execute the strategic roadmap and tactical plan to ensure product objectives and deliverables are met

  • Accountable for building / developing / leading high performing teams (hiring, talent planning & management)

  • Serve as a spokesperson for Product Development, presenting regularly to senior leadership on key initiatives

  • Provide technical leadership to a diverse group of engineering disciplines (mechanical, electrical, software, systems, test and project management)

  • Collaborate cross-functionally to develop efficient processes for product development as the company's product portfolio evolves (regulatory, manufacturing, marketing, sales, other)

  • Recognize the gaps, initiate, develop and establish infrastructure, tools and knowledge base to propel successful product developments

  • Produce plans for future work and financial models for budgeting and tracking

  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of competitive technologies to Abiomed products and pipeline

  • Apply and/or develop highly advanced technologies, scientific principles, theories and concepts that may be new to the industry

  • Provide strong organizational leadership and motivation for the Product Development staff and foster a success-oriented, accountable, high-morale environment within Engineering founded on the Abiomed Principles and patients-first culture.

  • Committed to being customer focused and responsive to unmet needs.

Job Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a scientific or engineering discipline (Mechanical background desired); Advanced degree preferred

  • 8+ years leading successful Product Development teams, providing hands on leadership or technical management, preferably in medical devices

  • Must have 2+ years of experience operating at the Manager level or above

  • Strong people leader with an inspirational management style

  • Execution driven, highly adaptable

  • Able to lead and manage in a rapid pace, complex environment

  • Customer-centric design, development and engagement approach

  • Demonstrated success working collaboratively with cross-functional teams.

  • Design for Manufacturing expertise

  • Financial modeling & budgeting experience
