The Associate Director of Portfolio Management is responsible for the Prioritization, Intake, Governance, Resource Management & Capacity Planning for the Insurance Solutions Organization.

This includes portfolio budgeting and forecasting, annual planning, metrics development & reporting as well as ad-hoc analysis.

This is an extremely high visibility role, providing weekly updates to the full Insurance Solutions Executive Leadership Team, as well as providing structure, guidance and recommendations to drive to the best outcomes for the Portfolio. The ideal candidate should have a well-rounded skill-set of executive communication skills, strong financial acumen, attention to detail, strong delegation/direction setting ability, and strong self-motivation in a fast paced environment.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Manage overall Insurance Solutions Intake/Governance process

  • Develop and Manage broad communications to provide clarity on the Portfolio

  • Lead a team responsible for planning, budgeting, forecasting and governing the IT Project Portfolio

  • Collaborate with all levels to drive Portfolio Planning exercises to determine current and future technology demands

  • Continually reforecasting and reporting variances to Senior Leadership and our client

  • Partnering with IT Leadership to develop a resource plan that supports the efficient operation of the IT organization and the execution of the Project Portfolio

  • Partnering with the Project Management Office, key business leaders and IT leadership to prioritize and balance the Project Portfolio based on business demand and financial/resource constraints

  • Advancing and documenting financial models, reporting and processes that plan and govern complex Information Technology budgets and funding models

Required Qualifications:

  • BA/BS degree in Business, Finance, IT or related field and/or equivalent education and experience

  • 5+ years of experience in tracking, planning projects, working with large data sets and making data driven analytical decisions to drive change

  • Experience with and ability to handle an extremely high visibility role, providing weekly updates to the full Insurance Solutions Executive Leadership Team (strong communication, presentation and influencing skills)

  • Experience leading meetings and conduction presentations to gain consensus and drive critical decisions

  • Advanced level of proficiency with Excel, PowerPoint and SharePoint

  • Full COVID-19 vaccination is an essential requirement of this role. UnitedHealth Group will adhere to all federal, state and local regulations as well as all client requirements and will obtain necessary proof of vaccination prior to employment to ensure compliance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MBA

  • PMP or PMI certification

  • 1+ years of supervisory experience

  • Experience in the healthcare industry (Medicare preferred)

  • Experience planning & budgeting an IT portfolio

  • Experience balancing and leading the prioritization of new project efforts including resource and budgets

  • Project management experience (MS Project a plus)

  • Cross-functional team and relationship building skills

  • Demonstrated success leading, coaching, mentoring and training direct reports

  • Demonstrated business process management/process improvement skills

  • Solid analytical and quantitative skills with demonstrated experience using data-driven decision making and performing financial and operational analysis

  • Excellent time management, organizational, and prioritization skills and ability to balance multiple priorities

  • Tableau and Visio experience
