Description
This is a tenure-track faculty position within library administration.
The Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center - Shreveport (LSUHSC-S) Library seeks a motivated, collaborative, and service oriented individual. The incumbent will maintain a customer-oriented awareness in acknowledging and responding to needs as they occur to assure that customer satisfaction is met at all times.
The Associate Director participates directly in the leadership, planning and management of the library. The Associate Director collaborates closely with the Executive Director in all aspects of managing the library's operations, including budget, personnel management, strategic planning, and facilities and program planning. This position requires initiative and the ability to work without close supervision. Excellent oral and written communication skills are required, as well as the ability to work with an extremely diverse clientele.
Awareness of trends in librarianship, information science, and related information technology are important requirements of this position. Excellent interpersonal relationship skills are necessary. The Associate Director should have knowledge in program evaluation, including integration of evaluation results into strategic planning initiatives. The Associate Director must be able to work both independently and collaboratively within a complex and changing work environment. Experience in fund raising, grant-writing, and a demonstrated ability to plan and implement complex projects would be highly desirable.
Job responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
First line contact for students for library facilities, comments, and concerns
Assisting the Executive Director in library-wide planning initiatives
Consults with the Executive Director on ongoing trends in librarianship, information science, and information technology in order to enhance the library's infrastructure
Monitoring progress toward achieving the library's goals and objectives
Evaluating existing library programs, resources and services
Assisting the Executive Director in making financial and budget decisions
Manages normal daily operations of the library
Collaborates with the Executive Director in fund-raising projects and marketing the library
Overseeing development, design, and coordination of staff development
Monitoring library faculty progress toward promotion and tenure
The incumbent must be flexible and willing to undertake additional duties as assigned by the library's Executive Director.
Regular attendance is required to perform the functions of this position.
Incumbent will maintain a customer-oriented awareness in acknowledging and responding to needs as they occur that customer satisfaction is met at all times.
Qualifications
Applicant must meet the following qualifications:
Masters degree (MLS, MLIS, MALS, etc.) from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited school of Library and/or Information Science with at least ten (10) years of professional post-graduate experience in a professional setting.
At least ten (10) years progressively responsible experience, in academic health sciences library.
At least five (5) years of management experience over Circulation, Public Services or Access Services.
Preferred Qualifications
Expert in Microsoft Office programs.
Experience with III Sierra software
