Job Title: Associate Director of Marketing & Communications

Reports To: VP of Development

Position Type: Full-time, Exempt

Salary: 80,000-85,000/yr DOE

Hybrid: Pasadena, CA

Job Summary:

The Associate Director of Marketing & Communications will lead our strategic marketing and communications efforts. The Associate Director of Marketing and Communications will play a critical role in increasing the organizations reach, engaging donors, and supporting our fundraising initiatives. The Director will develop and execute comprehensive marketing strategies to enhance donor engagement, boost fundraising efforts, and elevate the organizations brand presence across multiple channels.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE, but are not limited to the following:

  • Develop and implement an integrated strategic communications plan to advance the organizations brand identity, broaden awareness of its programs, and increase the visibility of its programs across key stakeholder audiences.

  • Oversee the creation of all marketing materials and communications including, press releases, newsletters, annual reports, and digital content to ensure they align with the organization's identity and communication strategy.

  • Manage the organizations digital presence, ensuring optimal engagement through website management, social media content, and email marketing campaigns.

  • Act as the primary media contact, developing strong relationships with media representatives to enhance the organization's profile and visibility.

  • Lead, mentor, and build the capabilities of the marketing and communications team to advance departmental and organizational goals.

  • Provide creative and budgeting oversight to direct reporting staff members.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Work indoors in a temperature controlled environment with low to moderate noise level. Occasional outdoor work and driving may be required.

  • Requires use of computer and phone; stand and sit for long periods of time, and move and walk to various locations.

  • See, hear and speak clearly in order to give and receive information and instructions.

  • Complex reading, writing, and research skills; analytical/perceptive /comprehensive capabilities.

  • Ability to interact effectively with employees, clients, customers, media and other members of the public.

  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize workload, manage time, adapt to changing work demands, and meet deadlines.

  • Able to work overtime, work evenings and weekends.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to think strategically and develop comprehensive, data-driven marketing plans.

  • Strong understanding of digital marketing strategies including Search Engine Optimization, Pay Per Click, social media, content marketing, and database management.

  • Proven ability to manage and inspire a team, and work collaboratively across departments and with senior management.

  • Proficient in using tools to measure and track the impact of marketing efforts and make data-informed decisions.

  • Understanding ethical story telling, asset based language, how communications support fundraising.

  • Able to attend off-site meetings and events

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelors Degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or a related field preferred; relevant experience or certifications may be considered in lieu of degree.

  • Minimum of 5-7 years of marketing and/or communications experience, 3 years of which must be in a leadership role, preferably in the nonprofit sector.

  • 3 years of direct public media interface experience required.
