MADRE is seeking an Associate Director of Human Rights Advocacy, Middle East North Africa (MENA) Region to develop and implement creative strategies for achieving policy recommendations across a spectrum of MADREs program areas, internationally, regionally and in the MENA region countries in which MADRE works.
The Associate Director of Human Rights Advocacy, MENA Region will also be charged with leading the MENA Region team toward shared directions and priorities, while contributing to overall organizational priorities and strategies and ensuring those are applied across the region. The Associate Director may work from anywhere in the world but must be willing to travel to New York and to the MENA region.

Build and maintain relationships with partners and key stakeholders both through consistent electronic communication and in face-to-face in-country workshops, trainings, meetings, and documentation settings;
With support of MADREs Human Rights Advocacy team, develop and implement appropriate human rights advocacy strategies that further MADREs MENA region grassroots women partners social justice agendas; including advancing the rights of marginalized and at-risk Iraqis, and advancing Syrian and Palestinian womens human rights in UN processes
Conduct human rights trainings with partner organizations and allies;
Represent and speak on behalf of MADRE at panel events, presentations and high-level government or key stakeholder meetings;
Identify, inspire, and support partner members to become better advocates, with a goal of creating a more visible and highly powerful voice for human rights;
Conduct financial stewardship and resource acquisition; and ensuring programmatic focus and quality;
Conduct and/or assist in conducting interviews and evidence gathering activities, ensuring that necessary measures of protection and confidentiality for witnesses and victims are thoroughly implemented;
Investigate alleged gender-based violations and abuses of international human rights law committed by militias and armed groups, government security forces, and private actors;
Establish the facts and circumstances of such abuses and violations, with the aim of ending impunity and ensuring full accountability in future tribunals and transitional justice processes;
Draft reports and submissions for human rights mechanisms;
Work with MADREs Human Rights Advocacy Team to develop and implement strategies to advance the human rights of marginalized and at-risk individuals at domestic and international levels.
Demonstrated commitment to womens human rights and MADREs mission;
Juris Doctorate, Masters Degree (or equivalent) in law, human rights or a related field.
Demonstrated professional competence and expert knowledge of UN human rights mechanisms, international accountability mechanisms, and other pertinent substantive areas of work;
Proven ability to conduct complex human rights investigations, including expertise in monitoring and documenting sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) and understanding of gender-specific protection concerns;
Excellent communication and written skills and ability to work in a multicultural, multi-ethnic environment and to maintain effective working relations with people of different national and cultural backgrounds;
Good analytical capacity; solid knowledge in witness and victim protection and data protection;
Ability to travel internationally
Minimum of 7 years of experience in the area of gender justice, international justice or criminal processes, and expertise in investigation of SGBV crimes;
Experience in a conflict-affected setting is preferred;
Fluency in English required; Fluency in Arabic or Kurdish highly desirable. Please note in your application if you are fluent in a second language.
