Associate Director, Enterprise Database Administration (EDBA), Digital and Technology Partners, Req#2778622

This is an onsite/remote hybrid position. Requires 6 days per month and as requested for leadership meetings (1- 2 days per month)

The Associate Director of Enterprise Database Administration (EDBA) will assist the Director of EDBA/Epic Technical Teams in overseeing the EDBA group within Digital and Technology Partners at Mount Sinai. This group is responsible for the database services across the entire enterprise covering Microsoft SQL and Oracle systems that support a variety of business, clinical, and research needs including the Epic Cogito modules. The ideal candidate is a seasoned and experienced manager who has a proven track record of success leading complex projects related to database management while also possessing strong technical skills and the ability to assist in troubleshooting and issue resolution as needed. The candidate must also demonstrate experience with and ability to contribute to key initiatives such as large-scale data center migrations and exits and building out a Cloud Operating model.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical architecture expertise in design, implementation, and maintenance of database systems for the enterprise (spanning SQL and Oracle platforms as well as Epic Cogito modules) by setting technical strategy.

  • Define both long term and short-term vision for EDBA team and how it fits into broader organizational strategy. Communicate and deliver that vision via product roadmaps and governance model.

  • Drive operational improvement by setting standards and developing processes for ongoing performance monitoring, performance tuning, setting up and maintaining database replication, installing and configuring clustered databases, managing archiving and backups etc.

  • Leverage knowledge of automation methodologies to maximize productivity and drive out manual processes.

  • Create Cloud adoption plans and Cloud database design, leveraging knowledge of various Cloud services to guide decision making. Create and maintain required related architecture and design documentation.

  • Analyze and report on key metrics required for regular performance, consumption, and capacity management to ensure the overall technical infrastructure supports the business needs.

  • Manage vendors and service providers including Cloud infrastructure providers, data center providers, and outsourced services.

  • Analyze, interpret, and develop operating and capital budgets for both on premise and Cloud infrastructure including the ability for forecast 3+ years.

  • Establish budgetary requirements for asset refresh, licensing, maintenance agreements and project funding.

  • Drive a culture of continuous improvement that proactively manages resolution of serious and complex problems, identifying underlying causes and performing corrective action appropriately.

  • Recruit, hire, and manage teams with multi-disciplined technical staff by supervising daily activities and developing and retaining talent.

  • Ensure staff engagement by fostering a working environment where team members feel comfortable giving and receiving feedback, are productive, and successfully manage appropriate work/life balance.

Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in business, computer science or related field preferred.

  • 10+ years' experience administering relational databases in production, with a demonstrated proficiency in administering databases in a Cloud environment.

  • Advanced knowledge of data architecture, standards, and data governance in relational and nonrelational databases.

  • In-depth and hands on knowledge of the Microsoft data platform including Microsoft SQL Server, Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance, Azure Cosmos DB, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Databricks, etc. Extensive knowledge of developing, deploying an optimal SQL Server environment.

  • In-depth and hands on knowledge of Oracle database technologies including DataGuard, RAC technologies, ASM, Oracle Security, and Exadata.

  • Experience with Epic's Cogito modules (Caboodle, Clarity, related ETL administration tools) is a plus.

  • Experience with IT Service Management (ITIL and ITSM) with responsibility leading our ITSM practice to the next level, specifically for its use in support operations and controlling Dev, QA, and Production environments

  • Extensive team building experience: conducting interviews, hiring, and creating performance development plans to grow team members and yield high performing staff.

  • Understanding of operations in a regulated industry preferably with experience address system requirements for Protected Health Information (PHI), or Personally Identifiable Information (PII).

  • Sound customer service skills across all levels within an organization with an ability to communicate technical issues to non-technical users

  • Experience managing vendor relationships including both onshore and offshore resources.

  • Effective in organizing and deploying resources to tackle multiple projects simultaneously while adhering to deliverables and timelines.

The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides a salary range to comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $115,494.00 - $173,241.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
