The Associate Director of Development will serve as a major gifts officer on behalf of the University of Maryland for University Relations, reporting centrally, with a dotted line to various campus colleges/units. This individual will be responsible for the identification, cultivation, and solicitation of potential major gift donors.

They will identify and engage regional development markets in collaboration with development colleagues, maintain a prospect portfolio, and conduct development travel. The Associate Director will coordinate with all development staff and gift stewardship activities with donor relations.

The Associate Director will work closely with the Office of Gift Planning, Corporate and Foundation Relations office, Annual Giving, Leadership Annual Giving, Regional Major Giving team, and the Alumni Association on strategies for donors related to those areas. Further, they will work to develop a major gifts pipeline to build a qualified prospect base, serving as a liaison between the faculty, staff, students, and potential supporters (individual, corporations and foundations). Similarly, they will serve as a liaison among the faculty and staff of the assigned unit(s) and/or project(s), and for the Office of the Vice President for University Relations.

This position requires the availability to work evenings and weekends. Significant travel is required (60-70% of the time with 20-30% out of the immediate area).

A faculty appointment in an academic unit at the University of Maryland, College Park, is required, preferably at the rank of Professor. The successful candidate will have a record of excellence in undergraduate teaching and scholarship as well as significant administrative experience. The Executive Director of the Honors College is a 100%, 12-month position on a five-year term, which reports to the Associate Provost and Dean for Undergraduate Studies. The Honors College is home to seven highly acclaimed living-learning programs for students with exceptional academic talents: Advanced Cybersecurity Experience for Students, Design Cultures & Creativity, Entrepreneurship and Innovation, Gemstone, Honors Humanities, Integrated Life Sciences, and University Honors. The Honors College features small classes taught by outstanding faculty who actively engage students and foster innovative thinking. Each year, approximately 1,000 new undergraduates are welcomed. In addition to the courses offered in the Honors living-learning programs, Honors College students have access to special Honors versions of traditional classes ("H-versions") hosted by academic departments. The Executive Director of the Honors College will establish expectations for intellectual engagement, oversee curricular and co-curricular activities, collaborate with colleges and schools, and maintain regular contact with Honors students.
