ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Commuter Engagement Strategy and Execution

  • Contribute to a high-energy, engaging, and Christ-centered commuter student experience alongside the Commuter Life team.

  • Develop, facilitate, and execute the Commuter Engagement strategy in collaboration with the Director of Commuter Life.

  • Plan and oversee large-scale events and programs oriented around increasing and fostering commuter student engagement, including Commuter Welcome Week programs, Tailgates, Christmas Party, Appreciation Week events, and promotional tabling.

  • Create environments that encourage connection among commuter students and with the Commuter Life team.

  • Partner with other Liberty University offices and Lynchburg organizations and businesses to resource and connect commuter students to one another, the campus, and the city of Lynchburg.

  • Communication Campaigns and Awareness

  • Manage communication campaigns to promote Commuter Life events and initiatives, utilizing third-party software and university partnerships.

  • Employ interpersonal, technological, and other innovative strategies to ensure commuter students are well-informed about opportunities for connection and growth.

  • Collaborate with Student Life Creative to develop and execute advertising plans, social media tactics, and promotions for commuter engagement initiatives and events.

  • Supervision of Assistant Director

  • Supervise the Assistant Director of Commuter Engagement, providing guidance, support, and direction of Commuter Lounge Operations and Commuter Life Assistant performance.

  • Collaborate with the Assistant Director of Commuter Engagement to ensure the effective planning and execution of commuter events.

  • Meet regularly with the Assistant Director of Commuter Engagement for ongoing training, development, and performance review.

  • Tracking and Reporting

  • Conduct research, perform various needs assessments, and remain abreast of student affairs and commuter student programming advancements in higher education contexts.

  • Utilize interaction strategies, demographic assessments, and participation tracking to provide data-driven analyses of commuter student engagement over time.

  • Track and report on various commuter student engagement metrics, including event attendance and university-wide commuter engagement, to assess the effectiveness of initiatives and connectedness of commuter students.

  • Provide regular updates to the Director of Commuter Life on engagement trends and opportunities for improvement - including communication efforts, receptivity, and response rates.

  • Maintain availability to mentor and disciple commuter students, leveraging their role and influence to train Champions for Christ.

  • Remain abreast of existing and emerging technologies, processes, products, services, and leading industry performance benchmarks pertaining to Student Affairs.

  • Work proactively to facilitate relationships and connections with other departments at Liberty, such as University Events, CASAS, Information & Technology, LU Shepherd, Campus Recreation, Dean of Students, LU ONE, and other departments.

  • Work effectively as a team member, embracing and fostering LU's mission.

  • Other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position will directly oversee an Assistant Director of Commuter Engagement and multiple student workers.

QUALIFICATIONS AND CREDENTIALS

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education

  • Completed bachelor's degree and master's degree in higher education administration, student affairs, or related area in progress or completed.

  • Experience

  • 2-3 years of student or peer development and engagement experience.

  • 1-3 years of event planning experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Education

  • Completed master's degree in higher education administration, student affairs, or related area.

  • Experience

  • 3-4 years of student or peer development and engagement experience.

  • 2-4 years of event planning experience.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work Environment

The working environment in which one will typically perform the essential functions of this position is in an office setting. However, work frequently occurs in a variety of other settings; including, but not limited to, residence halls, warehouses, and outdoor activities.

Driving Requirements

Use of one's personal vehicle (or LU vehicles) may be required for travel in the performance of the essential functions of this position. Proof of a valid Virginia driver's license, an acceptable DMV record, and liability insurance is required.
