Summary/Objective

Reporting to the Director of Athletics and Club Sports, the Associate Director of Athletics will support the department in the capacity of decision making, planning, and strategy for the growth and development of the athletic department. The Associate Director will assist with the management and administration of our 29 NCAA Division II varsity sports, club sports, and developmental sports while providing strategic leadership and operational guidance to the department. This position will assist the Director with general administration and operations of the athletic department daily in order to provide a well-rounded experience for all student-athletes. The Associate Director will be responsible for game day management, external and community relations, and the implementation and execution of a full summer camp program/experience. The Associate Director will also work with the Director to build and sustain a positive, working culture throughout all levels of the Athletic Department; identify, hire, support, mentor and evaluate ethical and talented coaches in all varsity sports, as well as all administrative and support staff; and develop strong leaders that understand the role of the Athletic Department in support of enrollment and retention.

Essential Functions

  • Serve on Lees-McRae Athletics senior leadership and executive teams.

  • Represent the Director of Athletics and Club Sports at various on-campus and off-campus meetings and events.

  • Develop strategic vision for all Lees-McRae Athletics external units.

  • Responsible for the development and achievement of Lees-McRae Athletics revenue goals.

  • Lead a diverse team of direct reports, including multiple coaches and other staff members.

  • Commitment to and compliance with the college and Department of Athletics policies and procedures as well as with Conference Carolinas and NCAA constitutions, bylaws, legislation, and regulations.

  • Direct supervisor of athletic support services areas.

  • Support the Director of Athletics and Club Sports with development and adherence of best practices and policies for the athletic department staff and all student-athletes.

  • Responsible for starting and growing a robust corporate sponsorship program.

  • Actively seek grant opportunities and provide management of current athletic grant programs.

  • Responsible for leading the management, planning, and execution of the Lees-McRae Athletics Hall of Fame.

  • Plan, lead, and execute all student-athlete events.

  • Execute robust student-athlete development and coaching development programs.

  • Execute yearly exit interviews and conduct annual student-athlete survey.

  • Liaison with financial aid on all financial aid matters as it relates to departmental graduate assistants.

  • Work with athletics personnel and institutional research to complete all reports required by the NCAA and Conference Carolinas.

  • Assume game management responsibilities as needed.

  • Collaborate with Lees-McRae's Title IX Coordinator to ensure training is done yearly for all athletic staff, coaches, and student-athletes.

  • Attend NCAA Convention and NCAA Regional Rules Seminar as needed.

  • Attend Conference Carolinas meetings as needed.

  • Work closely with the Director of Athletics, Assistant Athletic Directors, sports information director and head coaches in planning and executing game day operations, including hiring, supervising, and training student and staff event workers, organizing officials, and directing game managers for home athletic events.

  • Oversee the purchasing of all athletic apparel and equipment.

  • Track and monitor athletics equipment budget.

  • Develop and oversee facility schedules for all athletic activities.

  • Coordinate practices, contests, fundraisers, and prospect clinics for all 29 athletic teams.

  • Ensure properly functioning seating, scoreboards, message boards, sound systems, and individual sport equipment.

  • Maintain inventory control of all athletic apparel and equipment by entering all new items in databases, tracking issuance and return, deleting all items no longer utilized by the department, completing a season ending inventory and a comprehensive year-end inventory.

  • Direct supervision of a full graduate assistantship program, student work study program, and student internships.

  • Plan, direct, and execute a comprehensive summer camp and clinic experience in all sports.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position will supervise multiple coaches, staff members, graduate assistants, and student interns.

Work Environment

Normal office environment in addition to indoor and outdoor athletic venues.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time, 12-month position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. with frequent evening and weekend work required.

Travel

Travel will be required to attend competitions, recruitment events, regional programs, school counselor breakfasts, community college visits, and regional and national conference.

Required Qualifications

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in sports management, business administration, or related field.

  • 2-3 years of supervisory/coaching experience at the intercollegiate level with increasing levels of responsibility, or a combination of education and relevant experience.

  • Working knowledge and extensive experience in fiscal/budgetary management.

  • Superior leadership, management, supervisory, public relations, communication, and interpersonal skills.

  • Commitment to a competitive NCAA Division II intercollegiate athletics program.

  • Ability to work successfully with students, faculty, staff, alumni, and professional colleagues.

  • Commitment to building and maintaining strong connections between athletics and the academic enterprise to ensure success of student-athletes to achieve both athletics and institutional goals.

  • Commitment to integrity, equity, and diversity that contributes to the development of an inclusive campus culture.

  • Proven leadership skills with a focus on strategic planning and execution.

  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.

  • Fundraising experience and the ability to engage alumni and community partners.

  • Prior experience as a collegiate coach is a plus.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Master's degree in sport management, business administration, or related field.

  • Experience with ARMS Software and Slate CRM.
