Job Description Summary

Reporting to the Director of Alumni Engagement, and working with DAR colleagues, faculty and staff from a variety of Penn Law offices, the Associate Director of Affinity and Regional Alumni Engagement works to create and implement strategic annual and long-term plans designed to engage alumni through various events and activities that encourage volunteerism and life -long involvement with Penn Law. With the Director, supervise and work closely with the Assistant Director for Alumni Relations and Administrative Coordinator for all alumni event planning, alumni communications, and alumni recognition programs. This position also assists the Director with building and strengthening the relationships between JD & LLM alumni, current and admitted students, faculty, the various departments within Penn Law, and the university as a whole through communication, outreach, and fostering professional and personal connections.

Job Description

  1. Design, implement, and manage affinity alumni networks and programming in alignment with LDARs overall alumni engagement goals and strategy.

  • Work to establish new and maintain existing affinity groups for underrepresented alumni populations

  • Work to establish and maintain interest/practice area alumni groups

  • Identify, train, and supervise volunteers in their leadership positions

  • Collaborate with existing student affinity groups to increase alumni support and engagement in existing affinity conference and events

  • Strengthen the pipeline from student leader to alumni leader in affinity groups

  • Organize and execute affinity events during Reunion Weekend


  1. Design, implement, and manage domestic and international alumni clubs and programming in alignment with LDARs overall alumni engagement goals and strategy.

  • Identify, train, and supervise volunteers in their Club leadership positions

  • Serve as primary point of contact for Club leaders responsible for managing those leaders and maintaining a good variety of class years on leadership boards, aiming to have at least one recent graduate (10 years out or younger) on each board

  • Regularly assess Clubs to determine viability of active status

  • Maintain Clubs website accordingly

  • Draft guidelines on Club operations for Club leaders and enforce club policies and procedures

  • Plan and attend Penn Law European Society Meeting


  1. Collaborate with other law school departments to engage alumni.

  • Collaborate on alumni receptions in conjunction with Fall recruiting trips; Help international clubs to host admitted student and alumni receptions in March for admitted LLM students; Attend January LLM Alumni Reception in NYC; Host a DAR sponsored study break as part of LLM summer program

  • Assist admissions office with organizing admitted student/alumni receptions
  • Legal Education Programs/Lifelong Learning
  • Work with Lifelong Learning team to build programming for alumni and analyze impact and effectiveness of programs.
  • Miscellaneous
  • Serve as Law School representative for Alumni Relations team within the University and with alumni relations peer group.

  1. Support the Alumni Relations team's initiatives and programming including, but not limited to:

  • Work with the Alumni Relations team to plan and staff Reunion Weekend

  • Work with the Alumni Relations team to plan and staff Law Alumni Society Board meetings three times per year.

  • Track and record alumni involvement, event attendance, and contact information resulting from above duties.

Qualifications

  • COVER LETTER REQUIRED
  • A Bachelor's Degree and 2 years to 5 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.Knowledge of University of Pennsylvania alumni and other record keeping systems helpful. Must demonstrate a team-orientation and ability to work in a highly collaborative environment. Must be able to work occasional evening or weekend hours.

  • Bachelor's degree required.

  • Minimum of two to five years' experience in alumni affairs, development or a related field.The candidate will have a history of working successfully with diverse constituencies, including colleagues, faculty, alumni, current students, and prospective students.

  • Proven leadership skills

  • Experienced in strategic planning and successful implementation

  • A track record of service, demonstrated flexibility and a strong work ethic.

  • Demonstrated ability to organize tasks & priorities, manage multiple projects & meet tight deadlines essential.

  • Highly organized, innovative and self-initiating with the ability to work independently as well as within a team-orientation in a highly collaborative environment.

  • Commitment to the Penn Law ideals of collaboration is required.
