Job Description:

General Statement of Duties:

The Associate Director of Advising, under the direction of the Director of Advising & Student SUCCESS, will provide strategic visioning and administrative support for the advising processes related to academic intervention and case management. The Assistant Director will liaise with the other MWCC advising offices to support student case management. They also will provide case management support to faculty advisors. They will provide management support and oversight for the staff within the Office of Advising, Career & Transfer, the THRIVE Center and the SUCCESS Scholars Program. They will participate in the cultivation of a student-centered, data-inform, equity-minded environment for MWCC faculty, staff and students. This is an on-campus position based out of the Gardner campus.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide day-to-day operational leadership to the SUCCESS Scholar Program and the Office of Advising, Career, & Transfer academic counselors. Assist with oversight of operational projects and activities;

  • Working with the Director of Advising & Student SUCCESS, assess the student intervention process to identify any needed opportunities for improvement. Incorporate best practices for student intervention practices within the newly implemented retention suite;

  • Assist with the coordination of retention related outreach in alignment with institutionally targeted populations;

  • Participate in the planning and implementation of all matters pertaining to academic advising, course registration, career planning, transfer services and student success. Work with the ACT, THRIVE and SUCCESS staff to organize student programming, workshops and activities;

  • Work with the Director to promote best practices in advising: encourage central and concise notetaking, monitor consistency of advising practices across campus, and help foster collaboration amongst all advising offices;

  • Work collaboratively with faculty and department personnel across the college to understand processes, systems, and services to resolve student issues. Perform outreach activities (to faculty, administrators, college staff responsible for academic advising and students) consistent with priorities established in consultation with the Director of Advising & Student Success;

  • Oversee the advisor assignment process in alignment with a first- and second-year advising model;

  • Develop, implement and manage a student-centered advising and student success communication plan within the retention suite in consultation with the Director of Advising & Student SUCCESS;

  • Develop, manage, and implement other related projects, as necessary;

  • Maintain working knowledge of college and professional academic, career, and transfer advising practices to enhance ability to serve students and positively affect student success;

  • Participate in professional development surrounding best practices in advising, retention and student success for community college students;

  • In the absence of the Director, provide leadership to the staff;

  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Education, Counseling, Psychology or closely related field;

  • Three (3) years' experience and/or training involving college admissions, academic advisement, career development, or program/project management; or

  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience;

  • Experience working in a community college advising office;

  • Reliable transportation ( Travel to other campuses as needed )

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience implementing outreach, intervention, and student success best-practices

  • Experience working with large teams and managing multiple projects concurrently

  • Bilingual

Additional Information:

Salary: $66,000.00-$71,000.00

Hours per Week: 37.5 * Monday - Friday 8a.m.-4p.m. with two days 10a.m.- 6p.m.

Number of Weeks: 52
