Under the direction of the Director of Admissions, the Associate Director is responsible for implementing enrollment management best practices and office operations to meet the University's new student enrollment goals, University product knowledge, and effective sales and service techniques. The position is responsible for the outreach and recruitment activities, student interviews and counseling, and admission file review for first-year, transfer, international and graduate student populations. The successful candidate will be an individual with a friendly, engaging personality, a positive attitude and a passion for the work, and be customer service-oriented, with demonstrated persistence, commitment, and ability to motivate others.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in developing, implementing, and evaluating recruitment strategies for first-time freshmen, transfer, international, and graduate students.

  • Partner with other units within enrollment services to support students from inquiry through matriculation; serves on enrollment services committees and projects, as assigned

  • Travel within a defined territory to visit high schools and community-based organizations, attend college fairs, and conduct special programs. Plan all aspects of travel, manage receipts, and prepare travel reports to meet USJ's policies and deadlines.

  • Assist with the development and implementation of Admissions communications

  • Review, manage, and evaluate applications from assigned student populations; Responsible for timely follow up/action and yield of assigned student populations.

  • Serve as a supervisor to Admissions Counselors/Assistant Directors

  • May serve as the Designated School Official (DSO) for international students and work collaboratively with the University Primary DSO and U.S. Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) field representatives

  • Utilizes CRM system (Slate) to track prospective student engagement, conduct recruitment data analysis, manage contacts, generate reports and communicate with students.

  • Clearly, accurately, and enthusiastically articulate information about the University and its programs, admission criteria, cost of attendance and aid. Assess individual student needs and, through multi-channel approaches, develops tactics to provide students with essential information.

  • Represents the University and the Office of Admissions with the highest degree of professionalism through an array of outreach, programs and activities, and foster strong professional relationships with secondary school counselors, community-based organizations, and independent educational consultant

  • Travel to recruitment and admission functions and some early morning, evenings, and weekends is required.

Requirements:

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred.

  • 1-3 years of experience in higher education in the areas of enrollment management, recruitment, admission, marketing or related experience required.

  • Database management and technology experience in higher education and familiarity with best practices required. Experience with Slate preferred.

  • Experience managing and supervising staff and student employees preferred.

  • Prior experience in sales or customer service in a fast-paced environment preferred.

  • Some travel, evening and weekend work required.

  • Proficient computer skills, including working with Windows, Microsoft Office Suite, the Internet, and other programs as needed. Familiarity with specific Slate CRM System and Jenzabar Student Information System, which is used by the University and the Office of Admissions, is a plus.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to communicate and to work comfortably with students, colleagues, and internal and external constituents, including diverse populations

  • Professional, courteous demeanor and appearance and the ability to work professionally with students, faculty, staff, and administration and to professionally represent the University to the public.

  • Demonstrated ability to recognize and appropriately handle matters of a confidential nature.

  • Commitment to the mission of the University of Saint Joseph and the ability to articulate and advance the mission of the University centered on Mercy values.Must have a valid driver's license and the ability to travel using a personal and/or rental car for recruiting purposes.
