The Aerospace Corporation is seeking an Associate Director to join the Navigation and Geopositioning Systems Department (NGSD). NGSD's strategic vision is to be the center of excellence in the development and advancement of position, navigation, and timing (PNT) technologies for the national security space and civil/commercial space communities. Our mission is to develop, apply, and deliver high-fidelity modeling, simulation, and analysis capabilities and technical counsel across the enterprise of launch, space, ground, and user systems. Duties for the position include:
Assist the Department Director in the management of the Navigation and Geopositioning Systems Department, which provides PNT services for the corporation and its customers. PNT services include orbit determination, geopositioning, space-based navigation (such as GPS), and a number of collateral disciplines, including parameter estimation, geodesy, system performance evaluation, space system synthesis, satellite propagation, orbital software development and usage, and mission data and payload processing.
Provide assistance in department management activities, which include the following: a) set organizational goals and objectives, b) communicate goals and objectives to the technical staff, supervision, and interfacing matrix organizations, c) conduct department activities consistent with corporate policies/practices, goals, and objectives.
Set performance standards, assess sufficiency and quality of department services.
Participate in determining organization structure and staffing, budgetary planning, and resource allocation.
Identify and assign section and staff functional responsibilities, assign and coordinate work activities within department, monitor workload, progress, and schedules.
Report organization activities, progress, and achievements through written and verbal reports. Monitor and direct department security processes.
Participate in and/or lead cross-organizational teams. Maintain knowledge of customer activities and directions and provide influence in development of customer base.
B.S. degree in mathematics, engineering, physics, computer science, or equivalent.
Minimum of twelve years of experience, including seven years of direct applicable technical experience in space-related systems.
Familiarity with the principles of orbit determination, geolocation, signal processing, GNSS systems, and algorithm development.
Knowledge and understanding of corporate Policies and Practices, and organizational structure.
Strong abilities in hiring, mentoring, training, and development of technical staff.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to initiate and complete tasks, learn new technical approaches, lead technical efforts, and interact effectively with a broad range of organizations.
Current TS/SSBI security clearance.
Advanced degree in mathematics, engineering, physics, computer science, or equivalent.
Expertise in one or more of the following areas, with preference given to a candidate with multiple proficiencies:
System Resilience analysis
Architecture performance analysis
Orbital software development and usage
Mission data processing
Current relevant experience with NSG, SSG, and CSG programs.
Prior technical management, as well as program office experience.
