Position Summary

The Associate Director, Internal Audit is a pivotal member of the Internal Audit team, with responsibility to support the delivery of a robust internal audit program. The ideal candidate will bring a demonstrated understanding and desire to help drive a strong overall internal control environment for Alexion. The candidate should have a specific background in audit including experience with financial, operational and compliance (such as anti-bribery and anti-corruption) auditing. Additionally, the candidate should have a demonstrated track record of advancement and managing people. A strong professional presence, robust written and verbal communication skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities are also required. The candidate should be willing to travel up to 30%. Relevant industry and international experience will be highly valued. The role reports to the Vice President of Internal Audit and will have direct reports.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Drive a systematic, risk-focused, disciplined and balanced approach to evaluate and improve the effectiveness and efficiency of risk management, internal controls, and governance processes.

  • Plan, manage and execute complex, risk-focused financial, compliance and operational audits, both domestic and abroad to effectively assess the internal control environment at Alexion.

  • Verify internal accounting controls are adequate, safeguard company assets and in compliance with Sarbanes Oxley legislation.

  • Prepare insightful written reports and support the internal audit team in partnership with the business to verify that recommendations are implemented in a timely and effective manner.

  • Drive excellence within the function, aligned with the internal audit strategy and with a focus on attracting and developing a high performing, engaged team.

  • Promote high levels of ethical awareness within the organization.

  • Maintain a dialogue with other industry colleagues from professional audit organizations and commercial enterprises to keep abreast of industry issues and trends in audit processes and techniques.

Qualifications & Competencies

  • Combined minimum of 8 years of experience in audit and control functions.

  • Excellent project management skills with the ability to organize and manage multiple priorities and manage people effectively.

  • An understanding of financial and compliance audit principles balanced with an ability to understand key business drivers, and issues having successfully implemented those principles in a complex environment.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, and the ability to build effective and long-standing partnerships across the organization at all levels.

  • Possess the ability to provide value added recommendations that will support the long-term growth of the business via process improvements that truly enhance the internal control environment.

  • Must be able to "deep dive" into the details of the business while staying focused on the big picture and be able to conceptualize both problems and solutions.

  • Must possess the highest professional and personal standards, unquestioned integrity and business ethics.

  • Relevant experience with a Big Four accounting firm and/or experience within an internal audit department of a large multinational company.

  • Experience with data analytics a plus.

Education

  • Undergraduate degree in finance or accounting or related discipline.
  • CPA, CIA or equivalent professional certification is required.

This individual will conduct technology focused audits, including integrated audits. He or she will be responsible for evaluating risks and controls for our IT infrastructure, applications and systems, information security, and key business processes and operations. Furthermore, he or she will perform oversight of the company's audit of Internal Controls by providing guidance related to IT controls and managing internal and external relationships. Key Responsibilities: * Performs IT General Computer controls audits, infrastructure audits, and integrated reviews as prescribed in the annual Internal Audit Plan * Perform risk assessments to identify risks relevant to the applicable audit and determine the extent of testing procedures to be performed based on the level of risk defined. * Identify opportunities to enhance operational efficiencies * Tracks remediation of audit issues noted in internal audit reports * Serves as the liaison with IT for IT external auditors and co-sourced consultants * Effectively communicates audit results, both verbally and in writing, so they are persuasive, placed in the appropriate context, and understood by the recipient * Performs financial audit steps as instructed by the senior director of internal audit * Effectively interacts with IT personnel, external auditors, consultants, and other company personnel including some interaction with higher level employees * Performs special projects which are appropriate and relevant to the Internal Audit Department Charter * Aids business-focused Internal Audit team members with IT testing as necessary * Strong knowledge of industry standards/frameworks (e.g., SOC/SSAE, COSO, COBIT, NIST, etc.,) and leading industry business practices. Minimum Qualifications Candidates will be evaluated based on their ability to perform the duties listed above while demonstrating the skills and competencies necessary to be highly-effective in the role. These skills and competencies include: * Understanding of the technological, operational, financial, and compliance risks that affect information systems design, modification, and processing activities * Knowledge of applications, databases, and operating systems. Familiarity with networking, intrusion detection systems and firewalls * Information systems auditing skills including ITGCs * Strong decision-making capabilities, with a proven ability to weigh the relative costs and benefits of potential actions and identify the most appropriate one * An ability to effectively influence others to modify their opinions, plans, or behaviors * An understanding of business needs and commitment to delivering high-quality, prompt, and efficient service to the business * An understanding of organizational mission, values, and goals and consistent application of this knowledge * An ability to train business-focused Internal Audit team members on ITGCs and other relevant IT testing criteria Typical Education and Experience Candidates will be evaluated primarily upon their ability to demonstrate the competencies required to be successful in the role, as described above. For reference, the typical work experience and educational background of candidates in this role are as follows: * BS or MS in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field * Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) or CISSP certification or equivalent formal auditor certification * 4+ years of experience in IT Audit, Information Security, or a related field * Consulting and/or pharmaceutical industry experience is preferred.
