Position Summary

The Associate Director will work on a dynamic team including with the Assistant Dean and Social Justice Praxis Chair to enhance Inclusive Engagement & intercultural programming in the areas of professional development, leadership, and student life. They will oversee student leadership and student councils/clubs engagement, student engagement programming, and other student community development initiatives. The position will also oversee schoolwide traditions, including graduation and orientation.

Qualifications

Required Education:Bachelor DegreePreferred Education:Master degree, MSW, Student Counseling, or related field

Required Experience:4 to 5 years' progressively responsible professional level experience in higher education in the areas of student engagement, leadership development, inclusive/social justice event planning, advising, career development or equivalent combination of education and experience.Preferred Experience:Related experience at a large, highly decentralized urban university.Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:Excellent interpersonal, communication, presentation, strategic, management and systems skills. Proven ability to plan and implement programs with quantifiable results.

The School serves 8,000 students enrolled in a diverse portfolio of programs ranging from full‐time and part-time master's students to summer high school students, to visiting undergrads, to visiting international English Language students, to professionals pursuing certificates, to C-suite officers seeking executive master's degrees. The DSL is the primary staff member responsible for supporting and enhancing the co-curricular experience of students, and providing guidance and support to individuals and groups around personal and social issues. The DSL manages crises and emergencies and works to support students of concern; encourages the highest standards of good citizenship and respect for others among members of the college's community by resolving conflicts, upholding expectations for good conduct, and helping students to understand the value of living in a diverse community. Minimum Qualifications for Grade Applicant MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered an applicant Bachelor's degree, and at least 5 years of experience. Essential Functions CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Program Leadership * Leads the Student Life team within the Office of Student Affairs providing strategy, structure and guidance; participates on the leadership team within the Office of Student Affairs. * Works with the Programs and Operations to ensure that applicable services are planned, developed, regularly reviewed and updated, ensuring quality standards. * Works closely with the Executive Director on strategic planning and outcomes. Student Life * Manages the development and execution of all major SPS events including: New Student Orientation ? fall, spring and summer and online; Program Residencies; Graduation and Commencement; and major events including program-wide social events and workshops. Includes program development, logistics, catering, printed materials, coordination with administrative offices and faculty, budgeting and student communications. * Leads the development of school-wide events, workshops and community building seminars. * Develops and manages experiential education components, and oversees SPS sponsored experiential programs. * Responsible for the design and success of the SPS Mentorship program. * Develops SPS student leadership development and community engagement programs * Guides the community standards and norms, including the implementation of the Academic Integrity Pledge. * Guides Student Government through student elections to the University Senate and to the School's Student Association; monitors all student activities and any budgets of the student associations. * Serves as the primary liaison to other Campus Life offices. Communication and Outreach * Manages the communication strategy for the Student Life Unit, including communication with incoming and current students. Serves as a liaison to Marketing and Communications for the revision of student-facing collateral. * Student Handbook development Advising and Cross Department Collaboration * Coordinates regularly with SPS Enrollment Management regarding student issues. * Maintains strong connections with University offices including Health Services, Housing, ISSO, Chaplain's Office, University Event Management and Public Safety to provide students access to University information. General * Responsible for quality of student life metrics. * Reviews and revises Student Life copy for print and web publications. * Student Handbook development in partnership with the Director of Student Life. * Monitors inquiries for the general student affairs telephone line and student affairs email accounts. * Additional projects and duties as needed or assigned.
