OBJECTIVE: This position is responsible for helping to further the strategic advancement of GPSE in support of GPSEs mission to ensure patient safety. Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Leading key initiatives that have cross-functional impact and that are critical to GPSEs business objectives and/or Takedas global business objectives. This includes integration activities related to acquisitions, mergers and divestments.

  • Provides expert project/program management and leadership skills to ensure internal, cross-functional, cross-divisional project plans are in place for GPSE related initiatives. This includes providing strategic direction and translating the cross-divisional, integrated GPSE strategy into an executable plan using innovative approaches to ensure rapid and effective decision making

  • Work directly with the GPSE Head, Chief of Staff (COS), GPSE Leadership Team, and outside departments to support the strategic direction of GPSE by leading high-impact, high-priority projects and overseeing department-wide initiatives.

  • Support functional resourcing oversight using financial forecasting and headcount management techniques to drive operational excellence.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Enable GPSE to be a successful partner in due diligence activities by creating a Due Diligence Center of Excellence; author and maintain due diligence SOPs, tools, templates, and other related resources.

  • Liaise with other GPSE functions and Business Development to support due diligence reviews of target companies Pharmacovigilance System, infrastructure, and organization.

  • Lead or support integration projects for M&As, which may include representing GPSE on cross-functional integration teams. Directly manage and/or liaise with appropriate SMEs on all aspects of the GPSE integration, including project plans & timelines, budget, personnel transitions, safety systems migrations, etc.

  • Proactively identify and drive project and resource priorities that align with global business objectives. Work closely with stakeholders to balance operational execution with GPSE strategy

  • Support transformational project/initiatives and change-management activities.

  • Identify and execute opportunities for infrastructure enhancements and efficiencies, including process improvement.

  • Develop and implement tools and templates to enable consistency and transparency across GPSE projects.

  • Liaise with Takedas Vaccine Business Unit to prepare for GPSE support of postmarketing vaccine activities.

  • Manage and track GPSE budget and FTE resources along with GPSE Chief of Staff, including yearly mid-range planning efforts with Global Finance, comprehensive FTE capacity planning, monthly headcount reconciliation, and GPSE travel oversight.

  • Support GPSE outsourcing initiatives and vendor engagement, including strategic future-state planning. Work with stakeholders to identify and support implementation of opportunities for efficiency gains.

  • Contribute to GPSE goal and KPI development, initiative tracking and prioritization, and team engagement activities.

  • Represent pharmacovigilance department in cross-functional teams and/or meetings at a regional and global level as required, alongside the commensurate communication skills required.

  • Utilize project and program management expertise to drive project teams to achieve clarity on issues and focus on effective contingencies; interface with management and influence decision-making, monitor progress, gaps, risk management to ensure progress and business continuity

Requirements:

EDUCATION, BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS: (List the essential and desirable education and competency requirements to perform the primary responsibilities of the job. Any minimum requirements should be highlighted.)

  • Bachelors required. Post-graduate degree or equivalent (Masters Degree/MBA) preferred

  • Experience in Alliance Management - both with external business partners/vendors, and with internal key stakeholders and colleagues. Ability to interact effectively with staff of multiple disciplines both within and outside the company both nationally and internationally

  • Experience in program and/or project management, preferably in the Pharmaceutical or Biotech industry in clinical development, regulatory affairs, pharmacovigilance, or related function.

  • Strong ability to proactively identify areas for process improvement and lead infrastructure-related projects efficiently and within given time constraints

  • An understanding of and experience in the drug development process, including post-marketing and life-cycle management, with a focus on drug safety/pharmacovigilance

  • Experience in and knowledge of due diligence for company acquisitions and/or licensing partnerships

  • Demonstrated ability and experience leading high performing teams internally and cross functionally in a global highly matrixed and collaborative environment

  • Ability to proactively identify and anticipate project risks, including those associated with non-adherence to the regulations, and a keen understanding of when to escalate issues quickly and efficiently

  • Strong understanding and knowledge of the business areas both internally within the organization and touch points externally

  • Excellent time management skills

  • Self starter and strategic thinker

  • Able to lead teleconferences and meetings

  • Ability to drive change and manage complex situations, particually with multinational matrix teams

  • Proven ability to create and implement operational efficiencies

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

Job Description OBJECTIVES: Formed in 2012, the Vaccine Business Unit (VBU) is the only fully integrated business unit within Takeda spanning R&D, Manufacturing, and Commercial functions. Its mission is to develop and deliver innovative vaccines that tackle the toughest problmes in public health and improve the lives of people around the world. This role will lead portfolio management for the vaccine pipeline, currently comprised of vaccine programs in development for Dengue, Norovirus, Zika, Polio and Influenza, in close partnership with Global Program Teams (GPTs) and functional leaders within VBU. This role will be a key liaison between VBU leaders and the broader Takeda R&D governance process and organization, and will lead the development and implementation of effective processes and standards across each program in the VBU portfolio. ACCOUNTABILITIES: Lead portfolio management for vaccine pipeline * Drive the creation and maintenance of the portfolio strategy by working closely with GPTs and senior leadership in the vaccines business unit vaccine GPTs in developing vaccines portfolio strategy * Oversee timely update and review of key asset documents such as asset strategy, integrated development plan, risk management plan, probabilty of success for each vaccine program * Lead and coordinate portfolio prioritization in VBU by partnering with GPTs and/or VBU functions * Create and provide the vaccine portfolio strategy and updates for development of vaccine business unit strategic plan (Mid-Range Plan) * Represent VBU at Takeda R&D's cross-therapeutic area discussions and serve as the interface between VBU and Takeda R&D portfolio management * Lead annual Takeda-wide portfolio prioritization discussion by partnering with senior leaders from VBU and Takeda R&D * Lead the creation of portfolio management platform for vaccine pipeline by leveraging the broader Takeda R&D platform(s) * Work with Takeda Coporate Investor Relations and Takeda R&D teams to provide the vaccine portfolio information for Takeda Investor Relation meetings/announcements * Manage regular vaccine portfolio update reporting for Takeda R&D and corporate * Coordinate the process to create long-range vaccine business financial forecasts for annual corporate-wide evaluation by working with VBU finance team * Initiate and lead ad-hoc portfolio projects and task forces, coordinating as needed Manage governance process for vaccine portfolio * Act as Secretary for the Development Committee, VBU's governance body for vaccine portfolio decisions and program updates, by working closely with the committee chairperson to determine topics for discussion and decisions and guide project teams to develop timely and effective materials for decision-ready proposals * Hold accountability for the quality of the Development Committee discussion and overall meeting effectiveness; drive continuous improvement in conjunction with relevant stakeholders as needed to optimize * Lead the process to bring vaccine portfolio decisions to the broader Takeda portfolio review committee for endorsement in line with Takeda governance management policy Optimize vaccine Global Program Teams (GPTs) operations * Instill and facilitate efficient and effective ways of working across teams to optimize GPT performance * Partner with GPT leaders and project managers to share and implement processes and system solutions across teams, leveraging best practices from the broader Takeda R&D organization * Partner with GPTs to align all vaccine programs under the Takeda key asset development framework by working as the conduit to broader Takeda R&D organization EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: Education & Experience * Bachelor's Degree in science, engineering, business or a related field; Master's Degree in science, engineering, business or a related field is preferred; advanced degree (Ph.D) in life science field is ideal. * For Ph.D: Minimum of 6 years experience in the industries/consulting companies for biotech, pharmaceuticals or a related field is preferred with a minimum of 2 years experience leading cross-functional teams in a matrix environment. * For Master's Degree: Minimum of 8 years experience in the industries/consulting companies for biotech, pharmaceuticals or a related field is preferred with a minimum of 3 years experience leading cross-functional teams in a matrix environment. * For Bachelor's Degree: Minimum of 10 years of experience in the industries/consulting companies for biotech, pharmaceuticals or a related field is preferred with a minimum of 4 years experience leading cross-functional teams in a matrix environment. * Experience in portfolio management is ideal. * Experience in business strategic planning and analytics is ideal. * MBA degree is also ideal. * Experience in management consulting, business development or investment banking companies with a focus on healthcare is a plus. * Broad healthcare and/or pharmaceutical business exposure is highly preferred.
