General Information:

The Counseling Center (CC) at James Madison University (JMU) is accepting applications for the Associate Director for Training. Duties and Responsibilities:

The 12-month continuing position of Associate Director for Training includes the leadership of the JMU Counseling Center's Doctoral Internship in Health Service Psychology which has been fully accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA) since 2006. The Associate Director for Training is responsible for maintaining APA accreditation, coordinating the intern selection and orientation processes, assigning supervisory responsibilities for interns, coordinating training activities and intern evaluations, coordinating training activities with the leaders of other Counseling Center training programs, soliciting formal and informal program evaluation from interns and senior staff, and maintaining necessary communication and documentation between the Counseling Center, APA, and the interns' academic programs. Additional responsibilities as a staff psychologist include provision of intake, individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, supervision and training, clinical consultation, and outreach services.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

The successful candidate must (1) have a doctorate in clinical or counseling psychology or closely related field, (2) be currently licensed or currently license eligible as a clinical psychologist in the Commonwealth of Virginia, (3) demonstrate substantial professional experience working at a college or university counseling center and (4) have demonstrated a commitment to and experience with the training of psychology students in a college counseling center environment. Employment with James Madison University is contingent upon the results of a criminal background check.

Preferred qualities of the candidate include: (1) well-developed counseling and clinical supervision skills, (2) a collaborative spirit of warmth, acceptance, respect, and trust towards colleagues, (3) demonstrated ability to manage the details and timelines required by multiple administrative tasks, (4) dedication and ability to provide multiculturally sensitive clinical services to diverse populations and members of traditionally underrepresented groups, (5) the energy and professional maturity to flexibly manage professional demands while maintaining positive and healthy perspectives and relationships, (6) a self-motivated, self-directed commitment to high professional ideals, and (7) excellent oral and written communication skills.
