The Barnes Center at The Arch is Syracuse University's integrated health and wellness center which incorporates counseling, health, health promotion and recreation. The Associate Director for Diversity is an 11 month full-time position that is a core member of the Health and Wellness leadership team, reporting directly to the Associate Vice President for Health and Wellness. In partnership with the leadership team, the Associate Director develops, leads, and implements diversity and inclusion initiatives across the health and wellness team. Specific responsibilities include leadership of the health and wellness diversity and inclusion committee, implementation of staff training opportunities, collaboration with offices and organizations across the university dedicated to the advancement of diversity and inclusion initiatives, and partnership with internal quality improvement programs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in a field related to diversity and inclusion, higher education administration, or a health and wellness field.

  • Must have minimum of 5 years post degree experience.

  • Must have demonstrated minimum of 5 years' experience providing supervision/leadership/oversight of diversity and inclusion initiatives.

Job Specific Qualifications

  • Must have strong experiences in work directly related to diversity and inclusion initiatives.

  • Must have experience in developing, leading and/or implementing diversity and inclusion initiatives.

  • Must have leadership experience and demonstrate the ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams.

  • Must demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills. Experience within health and wellness and/or recreation related fields preferred, not required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development, implementation, and evaluation of staff training and professional development that pertains to diversity and inclusion.

  • Assist in the review, development, and implementation of Barnes Center policies and practices to enhance inclusivity and remove barriers to accessing services for students from marginalized identity groups.

  • Develop and implement assessments to evaluate current level of staff and organizational cultural competency and develop matrices to improve overall competencies.

  • Chair the Health and Wellness Diversity and Inclusion Committee. This committee will be responsible for continual assessment and recommendation for strategies through which Health and Wellness can enhance diversity/inclusion efforts.

  • Along with Health and Wellness colleagues, collaborate with offices, organizations, and student groups that engage in diversity and inclusion efforts.

  • Assist in the development of outreach programming and joint educational efforts with these partners, with particular point of focus being the engagement of student populations that access services at lower than expected frequencies.

  • Participate on appropriate Divisional and/or University committees that related to this role, including the ESE Committee for Diversity and Inclusion.

  • As appropriate, assist in various Health and Wellness search committees. Assist in designing, developing, and implementing recruitment and retention efforts related to diverse staff.

  • Participate on appropriate Health and Wellness committees including Health and Wellness Directors group, health and wellness leadership team, assessment and QI committees.
