Position Summary:

Lyell is seeking an Associate Director, Financial Planning and Analysis who will work in a matrix environment to drive financial and strategic decision-making. This role which will report to the Head of FP&A and will be responsible for developing budgets and forecasts, performing financial and operating analysis & reports to drive financial management reporting. This individual will work within multiple levels of Lyell and will serve as a key interface between finance and our executive team to deliver a comprehensive understanding of key business drivers.

Essential Functions:

  • Ability to work independently with multiple teams across the company
  • Support preparation of monthly financial reporting package and analysis reports, including budget variance analysis
  • Responsible for accurately forecasting and reporting results on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis to departmental business partners
  • Provide capex, opex, operational and headcount reporting and analytics
  • Provide detailed reporting and commentary on actual vs. plan results
  • Engage and support functional business leaders to provide timely and relevant financial information and analyses to enable sound decision-making
  • Collaborate closely with functional leads to collaborate on annual budget process and forecast updates, as required by the business
  • Drive process improvements and efficiencies, identifying potential cost savings and allowable budget tradeoffs
  • Work collaboratively with accounting department to ensure alignment of reporting and analytics with forecast and budget
  • Assist with special projects, as needed, including Companys ERP implementation initiatives


Preferred Experience:

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting or Finance related field, preferred
  • 6+ years of relevant work experience, biotech/pharma and public company experience strongly preferred
  • Able to think strategically, formulating actionable financial analyses and seeing them through
  • Understanding and compliance with applicable Sarbanes Oxley requirements
  • Highly proficient in MS Excel
  • Familiarity with FP&A planning systems
  • Strong work ethic and team player
  • Able to handle multiple assignments and manage competing priorities with tight deadlines
  • High degree of professionalism
  • Ability to work sensitively with confidential material
  • Strong interpersonal (verbal and written) communication skills
  • Comfortable communicating with various levels of management
  • Decision-making, problem-solving, and analytical skills
  • Organizational, multi-tasking, and prioritizing skills
