Provides financial leadership in support of the organization's finance goals. Leads and manages finance projects or department, working collaboratively with executives. Directs efforts to ensure highest customer satisfaction.

Essential Responsibilities:

Serves as a finance expert to executive leadership on projects and initiatives with strategic importance to the organization. Provides leadership and direction in accordance with the overall strategic direction of Finance.

Defines and frames complex multi-dimensional issues and develops time tables/processes for decision making. Applies thorough understanding of the organization's key business processes to effectively anticipate and address the longer-term implications of decisions/actions.

Manages all steps of projects or processes and adjusts planned approach as required. Drives for changes in work products and processes that will improve efficiencies and effectiveness. Communicates information strategically, delivering results-oriented messages.

Fosters strong customer service orientation within department that is evident in all interactions. Fosters strong results orientation within department by motivating staff and holding them accountable to meeting customer needs and organizational goals.

Manages staff through direct or a matrix reporting relationship. Fosters a positive and proactive work environment, emphasizing respect for individuals, high standards of quality, innovation and team work. Facilitates the ongoing learning, well-being, professional satisfaction and development of staff through training, work assignments, increased responsibility/autonomy and mentoring.

Basic Qualifications:


Minimum eight (8) years of directly related financial experience with analytically challenging projects.

Minimum three (3) years of general management experience or demonstrated ability to lead professionals through influence and collaboration.


Bachelor's degree in business administration, economics, finance, accounting, or related field.

License, Certification, Registration


Additional Requirements:

Knowledge of one or more of the following: accounting, finance, quantitative analysis, financial analysis, healthcare economics, information systems, organizational development, health care delivery systems, project management or new business development.

Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws and regulations related to the healthcare industry.

Capable of thorough, systematic research and analysis and organized documentation of work.

Able to manage several projects simultaneously, complete projects efficiently and on deadline, sometimes with necessarily little lead-time.

Influential and effective in both written and verbal communication skills (negotiation, listening, and collaboration).

Excellent skills in complex analytic problem solving, strategic planning, program development, project management, change management and group process.

Demonstrate effectiveness in staff development, team building, conflict resolution, and group interaction.

Proficiency with Microsoft office (i.e., Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

Direct operational experience.

Experienced at presenting.

Master's degree or CPA preferred.

We’re a small research group with a start-up mentality and large ambitions for increasing the academic success of students. We study psychological factors that affect student achievement, and we partner with schools, colleges, and other organizations to improve student motivation and achievement on a large scale. PERTS drives higher and more equitable academic engagement in America’s schools and colleges by empowering educators to apply insights and methods from the learning sciences. </p> <p>We’re looking for a highly motivated Finance &amp; Administrative Associate who enjoys working in a fast-paced and frequently changing environment. This is a full time, 12-month temporary position, with the possibility of continued renewal depending on the needs of the team. Our office is located in San Francisco. This role may allow for some work from home, after the trial period in the role.</p> <p>The Finance &amp; Administrative Associate responsibilities will vary depending on the needs of the PERTS team but the major duties will include providing vital administrative, financial, and operational support to the Executive Director, leadership team, and staff members. S/he will be responsible for managing all of the financial transactions of the organization and monitoring funding; scheduling events and managing travel; and be the point of contact for team members in administrative issues. S/he will also serve as a liaison for administrative issues with several Stanford departments and many external collaborators. This position will report to the Director of Operations and interface heavily with senior leadership and key partners.</p><p><br></p><p><strong>Core Responsibilities:</strong></p><ul> <li>Submit reimbursements for PERTS employees and verify purchasing card/travel card transactions for multiple team members. </li> <li>Set up suppliers and processes invoices for independent consultants and other vendors, including with the San Francisco office space. </li> <li>Review monthly expenditure statements, research and resolves discrepancies, and monitor award balances.</li> <li>Serve as resource and respond to inquiries about buying and paying policies, travel procedures, contractors, office policies, university policies, etc. </li> <li>Create tools and resources that will assist teammates with efficiency and effectiveness.</li> <li>Schedule and coordinate logistics for multi-day staff retreats/meetings as well as weekly staff events.
